Know the Facts

There are many things you need to know to get along in Gor, and most of them are things you wouldn't know unless you had combed the books several times, or had been caught in a mistake once already and corrected.  Some of them are simple, and some are complex, but here are some facts you need to know.  Please, if anyone thinks of something important to be added to this page, email synne and let her know.

Men are in charge.  Period.  Gor is a man's world, slaves do not make the rules, and what a Free Woman would prefer comes second to what a man desires.

There is no mention in the books of red sugar, though there is mention of four Gorean sugars.  On the other hand, there is mention of red salt, so don't be surprised if when you put red sugar in a Master's blackwine, he takes you to task for putting salt in his drink.

Unowned slaves are never clothed.  You have no Master to provide you with garments, and therefore are naked.

Do not ever accept a gift from a man who is not your Owner if you can help it.  If you are unowned, simply beg not to accept it.  Often times, when a girl accepts a gift, it ends up causing trouble as a slave may own nothing.  Therefore, if she is owned, the gift is being given to her Owner and it is not her choice whether or not she may accept it on his behalf, only he can decide that.  If she is unowned, any man may take it from her at his whim, and this could cause trouble with whomever gave her the gift.  Not to mention, if she became owned, her Master may not wish her to have the gift.

Slaves never touch or possess money.  If a Master gives you money, it is not for you unless he is very new and knows no better.  When given money, you should either let it fall to the floor, or accept it in your mouth, carrying it to a Master.  If you are in a tavern and the money is payment, simply carry it to the Owner or Keeper, and if none can be found, to the nearest Master.  If there are no Free, let it fall on the Tavern Owner's furs.

Slaves never touch weapons.  In the books, for a slave to touch a weapon was an offense punishable by death.  This means if you are serving and require something cut, it is either already cut for you, or you will break it, or cut it as best you can with a shell.

If your Master places restrictions on you, talk them over with him in great detail.  Find out what he wishes you to do if the situation ever arises that he is not around, and a Master instructs you to do something that goes against your restrictions.  You, as a slave in Gor, are at the whims of all men unless your Master is with you, so this can be very important.  Does he wish you to disobey, and possibly catch trouble?  Does he wish you to obey, and tell him about the incident, and accept his punishment for having got into a situation where your restrictions must be disobeyed?  Does he simply wish you to boot out of chat, or tell the Master of your restrictions and do whatever he requests once he is informed?  Find out, it can save alot of heartache if you know what is expected of you regarding restrictions.

Slave heat is actually a term describing the needs and slave nature of a girl, her sexual desire.  It does not describe a part of her body.

Slaves do not kneel before Free Women with their knees parted, always together, in respect for the Mistress' modesty.

Sadism and such things are largely regarded as a mental disease in Gor.  Though a Master may seem cruel to you, he has his reasons, whether he wishes to impart them to you or not.

You do not get to choose who you do and do not serve, or who you do and do not show respect to.  You have no rights, you are an animal.  You have no privacy, no dignity, no honour, no choice, nothing that is not granted to you by men and easily taken away by them as well.

Though you may refer to your Master as "my Master" rest assured, he is not yours.  He is his own man, and you have no claim on him, not his attention, his time, his love, or his kindness.  He can and likely will spend time with other girls, and sometimes you may get lonely for him, and even think he is neglecting you.  Even if he is, such is his right.  This is why it is important to know the man you kneel before.  Jealousy is just another word for possessiveness, and as you are slave you have no right to be jealous over your Master.  He possesses you, not you him.

The moons are NOT named in the books.  One is referred to as the prison moon, but not necessarily named as such, and no names or indicating phrases are given the other two.  Do not fall into thinking that you have discovered a secret hidden in the books when someone informs you of names for the moons.  They are not named, and if you think they are, you are far from the expert you think that you are.  The only places in the books referring to the names of moons is in the book Savages of Gor, where there are months named as moons.  This is like saying January for us, a name for a period of time, not the actual heavenly bodies themselves.
