Finding the Right Name

One of the most important things affecting a first impression is your name.  It is the very first thing people will see of you, and could decide whether or not you will be accepted.  To enter a Gorean room named spank_me_daddy or switches_r_us is a pretty sure way to make sure no one takes you seriously, and possibly get you clicked before you have a chance to show them you are sincere.
Many people make a big fuss about finding a "Gorean sounding name", but don't let that panic you.  In the books, often earth girl names were placed upon slaves.  However, if you are in a position to choose your own name and wish desperately to find one that sounds like it "belongs" your best bet is to look up ethnic or historical names.  Know what your name means, and take some pride in it, after all, the fact that you are wearing it (whether you chose it or not) is a gift of the men around you.
There are many web sites out there dedicated to names and so on and so forth, but synne stumbled across one that really made her look twice.  The
baby name finder will allow you to choose a name according to the letter it starts with, the letter it ends with (most Gorean slave names end with an a), the number of syllables, the gender, and the ethnic origin.  Just look a bit down the page where a section is titled, "Get Suggestions."
Following is a list of ethnic origins of names, and places they could possibly be associated with in the books.  The list is by no means complete, and a girl would deeply appreciate if anyone notices an area missing and knows roughly what ethnic group would correspond best, if they would
contact her and let her know.
So, here goes, enjoy!
