  Yes. The leaves start to change colors because of less chlorophyll. (say it clor-oh-fill) Chlorophyll is the chemical trees produce that will make the leaves green.  This chlorophyll is made when the tree recieves plenty of sunlight.  As the fall arrives the days become shorter.  When this happens less chlorohpyll is made in the leaves.  They change colors to show the different colors the leaf also produces.
