What We Have Been Up To
Home
August 19
Welcome to a new school year. We are off to a great start and starting to know each other and what is expected.
This is going to be a busy year and I hope that we all can manage to make this a time to remember.
Second grade is tough!  We are no longer little and cute, we are not going to be able to depend on Mom and Dad for everything.  We will be responsible and reliable very soon.  But we are still very small children with lots on our minds. At times we will act very grown up but we really are far from it.
Sleep and a good breakfast are essential.  Some of us have already decided that the little breakfast we ate in first grade isn't going to be enough because we eat at 11:20 and we are sure getting hungry by then.
Sleep on the other hand is starting to show in the late afternoon.  We have worked very hard, it is very hot on the playground and at times in our room.  If we are also tired it makes us feel especially bad.
One big difference is the amount of writing we do in second grade.  Although we only learned to put thoughts into words last year we are expected to do that already in small lessons and we will be held accountable for some extensive stories and informational papers by the spring grading period.  A BIG step from the "I like......" sentences  that some of us treasure so strongly, because it is safe and easy.
Open House is going to be on Thursday night.   6:30-7:30.  We will discuss class routine, lunch money collection, grading scale,  homework, and many, many other things.  Hope you can make it.
