Ocean Facts
The Blue Whale is the largest animal on Earth, and probably the largest animal to ever live on Earth. This huge Mammal can be nearly 100 feet long and weigh about 180 metric tons. It's heart is about the size of a Volkswagon Beetle.
The Largest living structure is the Great Barrier Reef.  This is a mass of coral off the northeastern coast of Australia and runs for about 1,250 miles.  This reef is home to approximately 2,000 species of fish.
The deepest point of Earth is located int he Mariana Trench off the southwest coast of Guam.  This point is also refered to as the Challenger Deep and is estimated to be 36,198 feet deep.  That's enough to hold Mount Everest with more than 6,000 feet to spare.
The tallest wave ever recorded was 112-foot-tall recorded in 1933 by a United States Naval ship in the Pacific Ocean.
The smallest fish if the pygmy goby found in the Philippines, and is less than one-quarter of an inch when full sized.
The Giant Squid is the Earth's largest invertebrate.  It grabs its lunch with tentacles up to 40 feet long, and has eyes the size of basketballs.  This giant lives in the deepest part of the sea and has never attacked a person dispite fantasy tales that like to represent the giant squid as a man hunting monster. It was only recently that a true giant squid was seen by humans.
The Gray Whale will migrate 10,000 miles a year, between the lagoons of the Bering Sea and the coast of Mexico.
Some sharks will replace nearly 30,000 teeth in their lifetime. Rows of replacement teeth will grow behind the teeth the shark is using and move into place as others are broken off, or lost.
The mid-ocean ridge wraps around the globe's oceans like a big belt or the seams on a baseball.  This ridge forms the longest mountain range on the planet, at just about 40,000 miles in length.
Did you know the ocean is full of gold?  Yes, nearly 10 billion tons of it.  Only problem is nobody has the ability to mine it.  At a mear $200.00 an ounce it would be worth about $640 quadrillion.  That is a lot of gold!  But since it is unreachable the oceans most valuable resources remain fish, salt, and the offshore oil deposits.
