Back in the early eightys I began to plan a call of Cthulu variant set on the home front during WW2. The players would have been menbers of the home guard, and was inspired by one episode of Dads Army. I never ran it sadly, but am now inlicting it on the rest of the world. Gibber at the squarmous obsenity of it, and yes the appearance is deliberate
In the dark days of 1940 the British empire stood alone against the might of Hitlers jack booted hordes. europe lay under a pall of fear. britans citys were bombed day and night by the Luftwafe, uncovering, causing (and hiding) unimaginable horrors. The innner city children were evacuated to the country side. A strange and exiting world for them, and one sometimes full of fear, abuse, exploitation and neglect Tens of thousands died, far more injured and renderd homeless. Her merchant fleet decimated by Wolf packs. the social order cracked under the strain, morals declined, and the class system came under strain as all sections of society sufferd. The nations defence lay in the hands of the shaterd remains of the army, colonial forces, and the colonel blimps/reactionarys of the home guard. Stange foregners wander the country side fiend and alliie. Strange objects appear in both sea and air, aicraft barage ballons, and worse? Salors spend days or weeks lost at sea, their ships victims of Hitlers U-boats? In such an enviroment the horrors of the Mythos are bound to show up. Feeding on the fear and hopelesness. Opposed only by the home guard and a smattering of regluars.
The origional idea was based around the a home guard unit based in a small seaside resort town called Arkham-on-Sea during September 1940. As such most of the material covers Dads Army and the town in that year. I have however made additions to cover the later war years and other services.
