Legolas stood at the bottom of the steps with his father waiting for the Lothlórien party to arrive. As his blond hair blew across his face from the gentle breeze, his thoughts wandered back to the first time he remembered watching for a Lothlórien party. It had been in the heat of the summer of Legolas’s fifteenth year and the last place young Legolas wanted to be was out in the hot sun, in very uncomfortable formal clothes waiting for a bunch of stuffy old elves from a place he had never been. He had been waiting forever in the hot, hot sun when finally the party broke through the trees, thirty guards, one very stuffy looking Lord, and one scary Lady. It was very boring to the young prince and he was about to see if he could sneak away when a young silver haired elfling came into his view.

As soon as the elfling was placed upon the ground, Legolas grabbed his hand pulling him as he sneaked away.

“Where are we going?” asked the elfling.

“To dig for dragon bones,” he answered.

“Real live dragon bones?” asked the wide-eyed elfling.

Nodding his head, Legolas answered, “Uh-huh.”

“Wow, my name is Orophin. What is yours?” asked the elfling.

“Legolas. Now  let’s go before they see we are gone.” Legolas told him.

Legolas dragged the elfling to the spot were he had found a dragon bone the day before, his Ada said it was an old warg’s bone, but Legolas knew different. It was a dragon bone and he was going to find more, maybe a tooth, or even part of a wing, and now he had someone to help him.

Many hours later the two were covered in dirt, and had destroyed the entire garden, but they had found, a  shiny rock that they insisted was a diamond, two more bones, although both knew they were not dragon bones, but maybe the remains of some scary creature that they needed to explore better, just incase they ever met one, and a gold ring that Legolas placed on Orophin’s finger telling him that now they were betrothed, and had to get married. Which was just fine with Orophin, because he could not think of anyone he would rather marry than Legolas. Legolas grabbed Orophin by the hand and pulled him under a flowered arch.  He took both of his hands and said, “I, Legolas, take you, Orophin, as my husband, till the end of Arda. From this day forward we will……….. Dig for dragon bones, and ………. Eat sweet cakes………and…. Climb trees….. And…… and…… playalldaylong… forever.  Now your turn.”

Orophin thought about what he wanted to promise, after a minute he began, “I, Orophin, take you, Legolas, as my husband, till the end of Arda.  From this day forward I will always be by your side, I will help you dig for dragon bones, and protect you from scary  creatures, I will eat sweet cakes and climb trees with you, forever and ever…. Now what?”

“I think we have to kiss.” Legolas said.

“Oh.”

The two leaned across to each other and brought their lips together, as soon as their lips made contact they pulled away, both wiping the sleeves of their shirts across their lips.

“There; we are now married!” Legolas stated.

“Can you see that?” Orophin asked as he looked around them.

Legolas looked around at all the flowers falling down around them. Looking at Orophin wide-eyed he said, “ The Valar must really like that we are now married,” neither noticed the small squirrels that were playing high in the trees knocking the flowers loose.

The two stood in awe for a while until a guard came to tell them it was time to ready for dinner. Legolas grabbed Orophin’s hand again and led him to his chambers to get ready, telling him that since they were now married, they had to share a room. Legolas helped Orophin into some of his formal robes and braided his hair in the style of a prince, since now he was one too, and the two headed to the dining hall.

Upon entering the dining hall Legolas went to his usual chair pulling Orophin with him. His Ada leaned down and told them that Orophin had to sit with Lord Celeborn and Lady Galadriel. Legolas shook his head and told his Ada that Orophin and he were now married so he was a prince too and had to sit with them. The elves as the table laughed as Thranduil leaned down and told the two that they had to be grown ups and that a ceremony had to take place. Legolas replied that they had had a ceremony and said words and now Orophin was his husband and had to sit with him, and they had to share a room. Legolas was not prepared for the reaction his words caused. Thranduil yanked Legolas up by his robes demanding what words; Legolas repeated the words he had said, a little scared now thinking maybe that their families would have liked to have seen them married.

Thranduil dropped Legolas and headed to Orophin, when Celeborn came to stand in between them telling Thranduil that they were elflings and they did not know what they did; to leave them be. He turned to the two elflings and told them to go to their own rooms and to stay there until someone came to get them.

Legolas had gone back to his room and after waiting a long time fell asleep, the next morning Orophin was gone, and all his Ada would tell him was that he went home and that they were not married. That one day when he was grown that he would marry a nice elleth and that was that. Legolas tried to tell his Ada about the flowers and that they were married; his Ada told him they were not married and he did not want to hear another word about it. Legolas stomped his foot turned and yelled as he stormed out that he was married to Orophin, he was his husband, and he was not going to marry some stupid, ugly elleth. That was not the last fight the two had had over the years on the subject for his marriage to Orophin, the last only a being a few nights before.

Every time a Lothlórien party came he hoped that Orophin would be among them, but he never was. Over the years Legolas had met Orophin’s brothers Haldir and Rúmil. The two brought letters from Orophin to the Prince and took letters back, but that was all the contact he had had with Orophin in all those years. He kept the letters hidden in his chambers for he suspected that if his Ada knew about the letters that the brothers would not be allowed to return.

He was brought back to the present moment as the party came into view. He searched the elves as he always did with hope that this time his beloved would be there, and as with all the other times he was not. This time not even his brothers were part of the party. Finally, he made up his mind that when night came he would sneak out of Mirkwood and find Orophin. He did not know the way, but one way or another he would find him and once he did he would never leave him again, even if it meant never coming back home again.

Legolas never made it past the borders of Mirkwood; a spider had taken him down, not even a full day into his journey. That had been two days ago and he still lay in the healing rooms, delusional and unconscious. The king was beside himself with grief. There was no hope, as the prince seemed to have given up his will to live.

Orophin and his brother’s had been traveling for two weeks when the pain hit him so hard he doubled over and nearly fell off his horse; had it not been for Haldir grabbing him and Rúmil grabbing the horse he would have. Slowly Haldir lowered him to he ground. It was two weeks before that he had awoken from a dream that Legolas was hurt and needed him against the judgment of his lord and he had headed out the next day. Orophin head was spinning as the pain washed over him; the image of Legolas lying injured with a large spider over him flashed through his mind. He screamed Legolas’ name as he saw the beast strike Legolas again, then all went black.

That had been three days ago and he had yet to regain consciousness. Haldir and Rúmil had just carried him into the healing rooms, as King Thranduil was coming from his son’s room. Seeing the state the young one was in, he directed that he be carried to the nearest bed as he asked what had happened.  Haldir told the king what had happened including Orophin screaming Legolas’ name before blacking out.

Thranduil sat for along moment thinking till one of the healers touched his arm saying that he felt that keeping the two apart would kill them at which point Haldir pulled him up by the collar of his tunic telling him that if his brother died over him being an ass that he would also die. All in the room stopped as Orophin started speaking in his sleep saying, “This place is beautiful……… Not near as much as you, my Love.” All looked closely at him trying to see if he was indeed still unconscious. After a few minutes pause, Orophin started talking again as if he was carrying on a conversation with someone in the room.  “What are we digging for again?……… What will we find with the dragon bones?” Thranduil pulled himself free from Haldir’s grip as he started to say that Orophin was just talking nonsense when the next words stopped him. “But Legolas, I have your ring,” Thranduil’s face turned white as he moved to his son’s door to listen. He did not have to wait long as he heard. “How come you did not say that hours ago?” Thranduil closed his eyes as he heard Orophin reply. “I did not know what we were looking for.”

Thranduil walked over and picked Orophin up; turning to Haldir, he asked him to please open the door to his son’s room. As he was laying him down beside Legolas, he heard Orophin say, I, Orophin, take you, Legolas, as my husband, again, for all time.  From this day forward I will.”

Thranduil told the brothers that they should leave them be for now and headed out of the room. The brothers stayed but a moment until they had heard Legolas’ response to their brother and smiled as they saw their brother pull Legolas into his arms, kissing him.

{Orophin looked around him as he said, “This place is beautiful.”

“Yes it is, and so are you.” Legolas replied as he handed him a shovel.

Smiling Orophin took the offered shovel before leaning over to place a kiss to Legolas’ lips, saying, “Not near as much as you, my Love.”  Taking their shovels the two headed off.

They had been digging for what seemed like ages; their shirts lay to the side upon a huge pile of dirt. Orophin looked at Legolas asking, “What are we digging for again?”

“Dragon bones, we will find the other one with them.” Legolas replied as they started digging again. After a couple of minutes, Orophin looked to Legolas again asking, “What will we find with the dragon bones?”

“The other ring, silly. I do not have one remember.” Legolas answered as he started digging again.

“But Legolas, I have your ring,” Orophin said as he reached for his shirt.

Legolas looked at Orophin, as he said, “How come you did not say that hours ago?”

Shrugging his shoulders Orophin replied, “I did not know what we were looking for.”

As Orophin pulled out the ring and turned around he noticed that they were once again in the garden where they had been married all those years before.  As he moved to stand before Legolas, he took his hand and as he slid the ring on to his finger, he repeated, “I, Orophin, take you, Legolas, as my husband, again, for all time.  From this day forward I will always be by your side, I will help in the challenges you will face, I will give you support, comfort, and I will help to guide you, and protect you from the dangers of this world, those you can see and those that you cannot. I promise these on top of the ones that I promise to you so long ago, that I will eat sweet cakes and climb trees with you, and help dig for dragon bones forever and ever.”

Legolas fighting back tears and laugher as he took Orophin’s hand touching the ring there as he repeated, “I, Legolas. take you. Orophin, as my husband, again, for all time.  From this day forward I will always be by your side, I will help in the challenges you will face, I will give you support, comfort, and I will help to guide you, and protect you from the dangers of this world, those you can see and those that you cannot.” Laughing, he finished, “And I also promise that I will eat sweet cakes, climb trees, and help dig for dragon bones forever and ever.”

As Legolas said the last of his words, Orophin pulled him into his arms as he took his lips in a kiss to seal their marriage for all times. Slowly he lowered his new husband to the ground gently kissing him as he started removing his clothes. Soon Legolas’ hands were moving to remove his clothing as the need to feel each other was growing with each passing moment. Moans filled the air as tongues dueled for dominance. Orophin pulled Legolas on top of him bring their arousals together causing them both to let out a moan at the intimate contact. There would be time later for being gentle, but for now the need was too strong. Legolas raised himself, as he looked into his husband’s eyes. Leaning down he took his lips as he lowered himself upon Orophin’s hard arousal. Both paused to relish the feeling of being one. Soon the need to continue became more than they could handle; Orophin flipped them over as he started to drive deeper and faster into Legolas, earning his ears the wonderful sounds coming from his husband as he begged for more. Flowers started to fall around them as the two started to glow as their souls came together to bind the two for all ages as one. Hearing Legolas scream his release, Orophin buried himself deep within him as his release was pulled from him. Pulling Legolas back into his arms the two fell asleep. )

Thranduil headed to his chambers and Haldir headed to the barracks, Rúmil stayed around the healing rooms not ready to go too far from his brother. After about an hour he slowly open the door to the room Orophin and Legolas was in. Looking around, he wondered were all the flower petals came from that were all around the bed. Upon looking at the bed he smiled; Legolas and his brother were curled around each other sleep. He did take note and wonder were their clothes had gone, but dismissed it quickly; before leaving the room he pulled a blanket up to cover their bodies and headed to the barracks to join Haldir.

As the sun filtered in through the window Orophin woke with a smile as he wrapped his arms tightly around Legolas. Placing a kiss to his lips he gently started to rub his hands down Legolas’ back in an effort to wake him. Legolas slowly came to consciousness, smiling he said, “You are really here.”

“Yes, and I will never leave your side again.” Orophin told him in between the kisses he was placing along his neck.

“Mmm, that feels great.” Legolas mentioned as he turned his neck to give him better access, as he brought his hand up to run along Orophin’s back. The two were so involved with each other that they did not notice someone coming into the room until they heard the sound of someone clearing their throat. “Ada!”

Thranduil came and sat down beside the two on the bed, after a moment to collect himself, he began, “I am sorry, both of you, I should not have stood in your way, but you did not come with an instruction scroll, Legolas, and I know I made mistakes and I hope you can both forgive me.”

Rising up, Legolas put his arms around his Ada in a hug, saying, “Of course we can forgive you, and thank you, Ada”

Thranduil got up and headed to the door, as he opened it he said, “The two of you do know that next month there will be a celebration of your marriage to one another.” With that said he left the two alone. As he pulled the door closed he came face to face with Haldir who had been headed to check on his brother, “And I owe you an apology, too. I am sorry for my behavior toward your brother and you. It was uncalled for. I hope you can forgive me”

“We all make mistake when trying to protect the ones we love, I hope you can forgive me also for my behavior,” Haldir replied.

“I think that can be arranged. Would you care to join me in a drink in honor of Legolas and Orophin’s marriage?” Thranduil asked.

“I think I can do that.” Haldir answered as he smiled sweetly at the King.

Rúmil smiled as he watched the two head to Thranduil’s chambers, then wondered what he was to do till morning. Turning, he saw one of the Mirkwood guards he had noticed early and headed to make plans of his own.

The End
