Tonight is Yule evening,' Elladan thought sadly, 'and I still have no gift for Elrohir, or any idea what to give him.'

"What do you give someone who is the other half of your soul, who makes every moment of your life worth living?" the twin mused aloud as he paced in his room.

In the room just next door, an identical face was having a similar conversation with himself. With a sigh, Elrohir pulled on his cloak and left the confines of his chambers to stroll in the market. Perhaps something there would present itself as he moved among the colorful stalls.

Though both elves had searched, neither found anything that they felt would do the other justice. It was a rather dejected pair of faces that made an appearance at dinner. Elrond noticed immediately and a glance at Glorfindel and Erestor told him that the twins tutors had noticed as well.

"Well, my sons, I am very pleased that you are at home to share Yule with us this year," Elrond said cheerfully, hoping to either pull the twins from their somber mood or discover the reason for it.

"Thank you Ada," Elladan replied as he picked up his fork.

"We did not wish to miss another one," added Elrohir, "especially with Arwen spending it in Lorien. We would not wish you bereft of family during the holidays."

"Indeed, we have been too much away in recent times and would seek to remedy that," Elladan said, then proceeded to start his dinner without much enthusiasm.

Glances were exchanged between the three elder elves.

"You two do not seem particularly happy to be here, however," Erestor's soft voice gently chided. "Is anything amiss?

The twins looked at each other and sighed collectively, then looked at Elrond, giving him their best smiles. "Forgive us Ada," Elladan started, "we meant to be all cheerful, truly," Elrohir continued, "but I have failed to find a proper Yule gift for Elladan and I admit that it has marred my Yule somewhat." A look of surprise showed on Elladan's face. "I have the same problem, Ada, and was also lamenting it."

Elrond grinned at both of them. "That is indeed a goodly reason to be troubled, but remember my sons; it is not the gift, but the heart of the giver that is the true present. As long as it is from your heart, you cannot give badly and with the deepness of your relationship, any gift given would be cherished."

The twins nodded and returned to their meal, their hearts at least a little lighter for Elrond's words.

Much later, after songs were sung and gifts exchanged with their father and closest friends, the twins returned to their rooms. Elladan sat on his bed, slowly undressing, wondering how what to say to Elrohir, how he could make it up to him that he had no gift. As he turned to hang his robe, he heard his brother's arrival and a smile came unbidden on his face. Just the presence of his twin was enough to make him happy.

Elrohir put his gifts down and changed into his silk sleep pants. As he tied the laces, his mind wandered to his twin and a warm flush ran through his body. For years now, his physical reaction to Elladan had been changing and tonight was no exception. He stood looking over at the gifts as his adar's words played in his head. He had realized long ago that he would probably never marry; he simply had no taste for elleth. Now, in the firelight of his room, the snow falling softly outside his window, Elrohir faced another realization. He was in love with Elladan.

A combination of shyness and fear swept over him and he contemplated just hiding here, keeping company with the new found information; but Elladan was expecting him. They always shared the last moments of Yule together, celebrating another year of being alive and together. Slowly a smile crept over Elrohir's lips. Though he did not know if his twin realized it yet, Ro was convinced that his feelings were shared. Now he knew what to give Dan for Yule. With a lighter heart, he left his rooms and opened the door to his twin's room, and his future.

Elladan snuggled back into the embrace when it came. It always came. It always made Dan's heart race. He dared not tell Ro the truth, but he had fallen in love with his twin years ago. While their kind would condemn no kind of love publicly, this closeness of relation would be frowned upon, especially from the sons of a Lord like Elrond. Elrond. There was also the worry of what their father would say, or worse yet, what he would do. Elrond's nature was not to overreact, but everyone had their limits and Elladan worried that this admission might push his.

"There is mulled wine over the fire," Dan said softly, not wishing to end the embrace and yet needing to.

"Come, let us enjoy it together," Ro said as he pulled away, but brought Dan with him. Settling together on the rug by the fire, the twins enjoyed a companionable silence for a long while. They were lost in their own thoughts, their own wishes and desires. Finally, Elladan spoke softly.

"I have no Yule gift for you, Ro," he said sadly, "for nothing seemed fair enough a gift for the one who holds my..." Elladan's mouth snapped shut and he kept his face from Elrohir's view. Blast, he had said too much. Closing his eyes, he waited for whatever reaction was to come. He was not expecting what he got.

Soft lips brushed his and his eyes flew open, staring straight into Elrohir's. There was no mistaking the desire and deep love that resided there for him. The kiss was chaste but full of promise and it lasted only a moment. There had been few secrets between them and now there was one less. Dan allowed the full measure of his love for his brother to show in his returning glance and his heart leapt when Elrohir smiled.

"I figured out what to get you for Yule, Dan," Elrohir said as his hand rose to caress a soft cheek.

Swallowing hard, the twin licked his lips and nodded. "What did you decide?"

"This Yule I give you my heart. Will you have it?"

Elrohir waited. He had put all on the line for what his heart craved. Did he gain a lover or lose a brother?

For a long moment, Elladan just stared at him, unable to believe what he had just heard. A single tear escaped the stormy grey eyes before Elladan began to smile. "It is the one gift I desired most and thought to never have," he replied. "It is also the only gift I have for you, my beloved Elrohir."

Releasing the breath he had not realized he had been holding, Elrohir's smile grew broad and wrapped his twin in a tight, warm embrace, his face buried in Elladan's neck.

For a long moment, they just held each other; the sound of contented breathing and the crackling fire all that could be heard. Finally, Elladan pulled back slightly, looking into identical eyes with a smile. "I love you, my heart," he said softly, "and I can finally say it to you. I love you."

"I love you too, meleth," Elrohir replied, pulling Dan closer and claiming another sweet kiss. A soft moan sounded deep in his throat as his body began to respond as his heart had. For so long had he hidden these urges, this need to possess and be possessed by his twin and now he had to hide no longer. The realization alone was enough to capture his senses.

As if swept up in a wave, Elladan's arms tightened around the familiar frame and pulled them both down onto the soft fur that lay in front of the fire. As he lay back, the weight of Ro on top of him was both a comfort and an ignition of something primitive. Twin erections came into contact for the first time, twin moans filled the quiet room and both elves gasped at the sheer power of it. Elladan's legs parted naturally and Elrohir slipped into place between his thighs as though born to be there. Only the thin material of their leggings separated them from each other and it was quickly becoming an unwelcome separation. Elrohir broke off the kiss, smiling down at Elladan's soft whimper of protest.

"As delicious as your lovely lips are, my sweet, there is much more of you that I wish to taste this night if you will have me," he said seductively. In response, Elladan shifted and moved his body so that Elrohir was rolled onto his back, his hips straddled by his twin. Dan looked down into the stormy eyes, then let his eyes trail down the heaving chest.

"Do not move," he said coyly. In a flash, Elladan was off the floor and into the bathroom. A moment later he emerged, minus his shirt, a glass vial in his hand. Elrohir licked his lips as he watched his soon to be lover move close to him. Dan handed Elrohir the vial, then grinned as he slipped out of his leggings. They had been naked together many times in their lives, swimming, bathing, but this, this was so very different. He stood, bathed in firelight, dark hair long and loose and his erection proud against his belly. Falling to his knees beside his twin, Elladan's hands moved to Elrohir's waist. "You have on entirely too many clothes, beloved." With that, Elladan's nimble fingers pulled the silk pants loose and off the perfect body.

"Beautiful," he said softly, his fingers reaching out to touch the silken skin for the first time as a lover.

Elrohir lifted himself off the floor to sit up, their faces nearly touching. "You are the beautiful one, my love," he whispered against his twin's soft lips before claiming them with a soft moan. Tender kisses soon grew deeper, twin tongues dancing furiously in their quest to explore. The fight for dominance was won and lost more than once as the twins, different but equal gave and took in their passions. Long dark hair spread across white fur, firelight dancing on bare skin as fingers clasped and unclasped, kisses began and ended, sighs turned to moans. A vial opens and the scent of vanilla fills the room as slender fingers explore virgin bodies. Preparations, then soft sounds as two become one.

"I would have thee as my bonded, now until the end of days. All that I am, all I have, is yours, as Eru is my witness."

Twin voices spoke the words that would seal their fea for eternity as their bodies joined in pleasure and passion. The connection the twins had always shared intensified and deepened and as Elrohir looked down into the eyes of his beloved twin, their passions peaked together as they called each other's names. Moments later, the twins lay curled together, limbs intertwined. Elladan reached for the large blanket nearby and pulled it over them, ensuring their warmth as they both slipped into reverie.

"I love you, Elladan."

"I love you, Elrohir, for now and eternity."

The End
