| Dear Sir/Madam I and writing to you to share my views and that of many other people. I myself represent the views of the younger computing generation and I wish to point out to you the value of not taking down Abandoned Games/Warez sites. To you this site may appear to only be a place where software is illegally downloaded. Whilst this is true it also has another use. It provides gamers a chance to see games that have been created earlier by the company and in many cases a pre-sequel game. This in due cause can encourage gamers to buy the companies latest game on the bases, that the original was of such quality, and the sequel is likely to be just as good. The only way this can occur is if people are allowed to access the game at these sites . I myself have done this very process. When the game "Wasteland" was able to be downloaded (from a site called the Underdogs) I acquired it and because I enjoyed it so much I went and perched a copy of Fallout. (A in a sense modern sequel of the game) and later I acquired fallout 2 With out being able to acquire Wasteland I would of never found out about Falloutand it various sequels. Another point is there is no loss of revenue for any makers or distributors of these computer games. Since the games are "Abandonware" and thus are not distributed or able to be acquired any more, other then though the means of Downloading and sites such as these. So what is the point of not allowing gamers to aquire such software, where is their any possible gain for the various companies you represent. Whilst a limited few of the games on sites such as the underdogs are still able to be brought, I believe they still should be allowed to stay. They give the gamer a chance to see the game and test it to it's limits before they buy it, You may say one they have it they downloaded it, they will have no need to buy it. But a game is not the only thing that comes in the box, gamers by games for the manual and tech notes as well as the box itself. By shutting down Abandoned Games sites you are stoping a place which can help encourage games to buy various companies pieces of software and a place where people aquire software which lets them gain a greater insight into the quality of the various companies games. Especially the younger computing generation which uses these older games to access is a company produces quality games. (Name Withheld) |
