Review: It's really hard to imagine these days that Silent Night... caused such a fuss back in the early 80s. When parents heard about this flick, featuring a killer in a Santa suit, they went nuts. The result made a really cheesy exploitation flick into a household name among slasher films.
The opening of Silent Night.. is really great. Little Billy is warned by his grandfather that Santa punishes "naughty" boys and girls, and minutes later, we witness as a car-jacker in a Santa suit kills Billy's parents.
Billy, scarred for life, ends up in a foster home, where he witnesses and receives more abuse, this time at the hands of Mother Superior. When he's finally released from foster care, the shit hits the fan (who was the idiot that thought it would be a good idea to let the kid go around Christmas time?). He goes on a lengthy murder spree, killing everyone who's done something "naughty."
The ending leaves a lot to be desired, and it sets up an inevitable sequel, but up until that point, Silent Night, Deadly Night is a pretty good exploitation slasher flick, with some good death scenes and lots and lots of cheese and blood.
