The Nightmare on Elm Street Series

Springwood, OH used to be a "nice place to live." But that was before a young man by the name of Fred Krueger moved into town. Suddenly, all of the town's children started to disappear. Parents were frantic, so frantic, that when all of the clues and evidence led them to Fred Krueger's doorstep, they forgot to read him his constitutional rights before arresting him. All of the charges--all of the kids he'd murdered--were washed away because of a legal technicality.
But the parents of Springwood weren't about the let a murderer walk free on the streets of their town. They hunted down Krueger and ambushed him in the boiler room where he had taken the lives of all of their children. They set him on fire and watched him burn to the ground, content that they had done their duty as citizens.
The families of Springwood began to grow again. Those who had lost their children to Freddy had new kids. Others continue to raise the children they already had. But before too long...
The kids of Springwood started having nightmares--really bad nightmares. And the scariest part about them all was that the same man was in them all....he wears a dirty brown hat and a striped sweater, and has a glove made out of knives....and he calls himself....

...Freddy!

Freddy's Nightmares Television Series

The Freddy's Nightmares television series ran weekly in syndication from 1989-91. Each episode chronicled a different citizen of Springwood (most of them were teens, but not all), and the series contained some of the most graphic scenes ever shown on television at that point. Freddy did not always play a role in the actual storyline of the show, but he was always the host, much like the Cryptkeeper from Tales From the Crypt, leading viewers into his visual nightmare. The pilot episode, "No More Mister Nice Guy," is also notable, for it shows Freddy's trial and explain the events of how he came to stalk the dreams of the children on Elm Street. Freddy's Nightmares, though definitely not Emmy-material, was certainly leaps and bounds above the Friday the 13th television series, at least in terms of its connections to the film series that spawned it.
