Review: Candyman 2 is one of the best slasher sequels ever, and mostly because it follows all of the rules (not the rules laid down by Scream 2, but an entirely different set of rules).
The story is brand new, regarding a young rich chick whose family life in New Orleans has been tormented for the past fifteen years by the Candyman legacy. Her father was killed, her brother is in jail for a number of recent killings, and before too long, Candyman arrives before her very eyes and proves to her his existence, while taking her along for the ride.
Farewell To the Flesh also manages to add more depth to the character of Candyman, giving him a name and showing us exactly how he died (the first film only told the story--no visuals other than a series of paintings). It also gives more depth to the Candyman folklore, explaining how Candyman came to be the man behind the mirror, and why he is bent on destroying the lives of the "innocent."
Finally, Candyman 2 remains true to the original in that it is really creepy--plenty of false scares, but also some genuinely scary moments. A definite must-see, especially for fans of the first film.
