These photos were taken at my Dad's ranchette in Los Alamos, New Mexico. He really loved owning horses etc. He also loved the sea, as ex Navy and retired Coastguard. He owned a couple of house boats over the years, and "lived aboard" for awhile. His last wish, which we honored, was to have his ashes scattered at sea - complete with a Coast Guard escort.

Horace Evelyn NOYES, born 2 May 1910, Newton, Middlesex,
Massachusetts, was the son of Frank Winfield NOYES, and Martha
"Mattie" Evelyn WENZEL. According to a family story,
her father changed his name to Iwan Poul WENZEL, from Wenceslaus
Iwanowitsch Poulo Lodovus KNIRSCH. It might also have been Wenzel
Iwan Paul Ludwig KNIRSCH. He was born 23 Jan 1846, in Osterfield,
Holstein, Prussia, to Christine Pauline SCHEEL and Joseph Wenzel
KNIRSCH. Joseph died when his son was less than four months of
age. The area was under Danish rule at that time. Christine Pouline took her son back to Kopenhagen. I found them in an 1850 census. Reportedly Grandpa WENZEL went back to Kopenhagen, Denmark, for frequent visits, maybe to see
his mother. I have recently found much more information, and lineage, on this family. They go back through Kings of Denmark and ? Please e-mail me if you have any of these people in your records.

The parents of Frank Winfield NOYES were Grace Enna MERRILL, and Pelham Peasley NOYES. This side of the family are all New Englanders. Noyes goes straight back to England. Second great grandfather, Jonathan NOYES, married Sally WAKEFIELD. WAKEFIELD was married to GIBBONS, who was married to LEWIS, who was married to MARSHALL, who was married to MITTEN, who was married to BEAUMONT, who was married to PLANTAGENET. It was fun to tie into the PLANTAGENET KINGS even though we inherited John, "Prince John" of Robin Hood fame, who became the worst King of England.

Harold Merrill NOYES married Dorothy Eloise RICE, daughter of Bessie May WENZEL (daughter of Iwan Poul WENZEL), and Beverly RICE. I am looking for information on Beverly's father, George HOGG RICE who was born George HOGG, Oct 1839, in New York, and took the name of Rice sometime before his Civil War military service. The story is that the RICE family, of Chicago, Illinois, "took him in" as a youth, but the reason is unknown.
George HOGG RICE married, 22 Dec 1863, in Mc Henry County, Ill, Martha Ellen LEWIS, born abt 1842, New York. They raised their family in California.
