Day 16: Ottawa to Mont Orford via Montreal
About 250 miles today. Rather than stay in Montreal, we simply passed through it on the way east. The traffic in Montreal was really dense and unpleasant. Kind of like Manhattan during rush hour. Only we were in Montreal at noon.

Mont Orford is one of the Eastern Townships, intially settled by English-speaking Loyalists (the guys who backed the wrong side in the American Revolution). In the mid-19th Century their offspring largely left for western Canada and the United States. The townships were repopulated by French-speaking Quebecois. We also visited Magog at the "top" of Lake Memphremagog which straddles Quebec and Vermont. The next day we plan to visit Newport, VT at the bottom of this very pretty, very cold lake.

We stayed at the spectacular Auberge et Spa Lion d'Or in Mont Orford. Highly recommended.
Baci Noisette. The best ice cream of the trip in some little township on the way to Mont Orford.
Montreal Traffic. The photo doesn't begin to describe how congested things are.
Lake Memphremagog. Our umpteenth visit
