The SLAP Film Festival is an annual film
festival that runs out of the University of Utah (Salt Lake City, UT).
The festival is made possible by the efforts of the Asian American Student
Association (AASA) with help from the Pacific
Islander's Student Association (PISA) at
the University. The acronym SLAP stands for Salt Lake Asian Pacific.
A bit of history:
The first two years, the film festival was a small exhibition of movies
to raise cultural awareness. In its third year (2002), SLAP was expanded
to international submissions. The film festival has brought out directors
from Hawaii and California, hoping to bring out more each year.
Goal:
The goal of the SLAP Film Festival is to not only create more awareness
of the Asian Pacfic film industry but to also let the public have fun
and watch free films.
