Thari Payong
(Umbrella Dance) The Payong dance begins with the male dancers enticing the female dancers who wave long scarves over their shoulders. The female dancers will gradually approach the male dancers and then they will dance in unison

Thari Piring
(Plate Dance) The Piring Dance is performed to show off the skill of the dancers in holding and balancing saucers in their hands while making great and fast movements.The dance is said to have originated from Minangkabau in Sumatra

Thari Liling
(Candle Dance) The tarian lilin or candle dance is a graceful and dextrous dance which is performed by ladies. It depicts the story of a Sumatraun maiden who lost her engagement ring and searched for the lost ring till the dark hours of the night with the a candle placed on a plate.

Rongeng
(Festive Dance) It is a popular dance at all festive occasions & functions. The couples sing & move in rhythmic motion to the beat of drums.

Malay Food
Sri
Lankan Malay food is famous for its spicy flavour, and there is no end to its
variety. From curries to rendang, Malay dishes are distinguished by the
liberal use of coconut milk (santan) The spices and the santan give
Malay food its distinctive taste.
Rice forms the main staple of the Malays, and this is often taken with a
variety of dishes. For special occasions a typical menu would be , Nasi Koombuli,
rice cooked in ghee, which is served with Kalia(brinjal), Ayam(Chicken)curry,
Chuka (beef stew), Satey sticks, Achar (Onion pickle) and followed by Sirikaya
(desert) with Pisang(banana) . Other famous Sri Lankan Malay delicacies are Babath & Pittu,
Kaaki (trotters) curry. Puruth & thombong with Roti, Pastol (large pattis)
and sweets such as Dodol, Sellaray and Dosi.

Notable Malay Sporting Achievements
Colombo Malay Cricket Club is the oldest Sri
Lankan (Ceylon) Sports club
1892 - Colombo Malay
Cricket Club (CMCC) was the first club to beat the indomitable Colts Cricket
Club at Rifle Green
1895 - S.S. Hussan was
the first local to play for the All Ceylon Cricket Side which was dominated at
that time by
Europeans.
1907 - CMCC was the first
sports institution to tour overseas playing against a club in Bombay
1914 - A,C. Ahamat of
CMCC captained the first Ceylonerse Cricket team that beat a formidable
Australian side lead by
E.P. Waddy.
1920 - CMCC became the
Cricket Champions under the able captaincy of T.K. Burah (lawyer)
1961 - CMCC hockey team
won the coveted Pioneer Shield & Bacon Cup under the skilled Captaincy of
T.S. Adahan. Some

ayers that excelled at these tournaments were

1970 - CMCC was the
first club to send a hockey team overseas under the captaincy of T.M.S.
Saldin to participate
at the 25th Hockey Tournament held at G Kuppasamy Naido
Memorial Stadium India. .
