SLAMPOETIC 2001:
Gray Morning by SLAM

Gray Clouds and rain fall
scarred souls spill alcohol
for friends no longer here
whose got memories to share
lets sit down and compare
remember the time? Yeah! I was there
I'm gonna miss that
it's a shame I can never have it back
the chain went snap
the link caused a chemical react
my brain told my eyes to shed tears
but in fear
I chose not to, as a man its hard to show I care
I gotta be strong for my people
a soft man is damn near illegal
not allowed
a mans gotta stand proud
but how proud can you be
in the pain of tragedy
carrying the body of a ghetto casualty
your best friend in a casket a church full of family
a gray morning, I feel like the sun is mad at me.

In So Deep
by Jumaine Brown

You walked on water like a disciple named Peter,
took your eyes off the prize and sunk a couple of meters,
looked back regain focus and reached for your savior,
He helped you, didn't scold you or show anger to your behavior,
Instead in love he showed you the way,
Told you the path to take and the game you should play,
He was your personal navigator,
Taught you everything you knew he was your common denominator,
without him no fraction could be added or subtracted,
no hustle could go through, no life contracted,
But even with all that you still counter-acted,
played the role of Judas, broke the golden rule and ratted,
But still he showed no anger,
you were hanging on a broken hanger,
but you felt no reprecussion,
you remained untouched, the bottom line no discussion,
your power grew amongst contraversy,
you were on a high note like those Soprano's in Jersey,
Too bad this ain't HBO,
far from an act, but near the end of the show,
Julius Ceaser was a drama that so many have come to know,
Placed on a pedalstal,
you stood tall amongst your peers,
walked with out fear,
unaware,
of a need to prepare,
you were big-headed you didn't want to hear,
like a victim of abuse you sat in the corner covering your ears,
ain't it a shame, how some people make a name,
do anything to get ahead and hold the torches flame,
the cycle repeats the flow is circulation,
like is the process of birth to devistation,
some ask the question why live,
I'm going to die anyway so what care should I give,
But one must realize that something better is soon to come,
there's a lot more to life than just to live and die by the gun.
