| Founders' Day by P.J. Lowe a mural commissioned for the new Delta Delta Delta Headquarters dimensions: 16' x 7'7" |
| This tranquil New England scene was created to reflect key elements in the founding of Delta Delta Delta. Subtly incorporated into the mural are many of Tri Delta's symbols: the pine tree (in the background), pearls (worn by the figures), pansies (in the foreground) and the ocean. The four figures are not meant to be actual portraits of the founders, but to evoke them in spirit. The two standing figures represent Sarah Ida Shaw and Eleanor Dorcas Pond, while the seated figures represent Isabelle Morgan Breed and Florence Isabelle Stewart. The figures themselves are symbolic: one looks to the future, one to the past; one holds a book to represent academe and one, a basket of flowers to represent nature. The autumn foliage sets the scene in the season of the Fraternity's founding, at Park Street Church in Boston, November. 1888. |
