The Room: We have a large unfurnished bedroom available for rent in a 3-bedroom, 2-floor, 2-bathroom apartment in Greenpoint, Brooklyn. The room is 12 ft. by 16.5 ft. (almost 200 sq. ft.) and has large southern-exposure windows, a large closet and hardwood floors.

The walls, now a muted yellow, will be painted back to white before you move in.

You'd share a bathroom with one other roommate (the third roommate lives upstairs and has his own bathroom). The apartment has a large furnished living room, but the leaving roommate is taking some chairs and the coffee table, so there's space if you have extra furniture. The kitchen is a bit small, but there's a separate eating area.

You: We're looking for a mature, responsible friendly roommate who's grounded, financially stable, and considerate. We'd like someone who is respectful of the other roommates, cleans up after him/herself in the common areas and can pay rent on time. Ideal roommate will be employed and (sorry) doesn't smoke inside.

Us: One of us is a 30-yr-old public interest attorney who works at a nonprofit that does advocacy for the working poor. He's straight and vegetarian, and though he works a lot, he's social and friendly when he's home. His room would be next to yours and you'd be sharing a bathroom. He's very clean and considerate. He also has parttime custody of a tiny (8 lb.) Boston terrier; he takes complete responsibility for her when she's around -- which is sometimes less than a week a month, sometimes more (but if you like walking dogs, all the better!).

The other roommate's bedroom is upstairs and has its own bathroom and own entrance, so he shares only the kitchen. He's 30-something, gay, clean (especially in common areas), quiet and considerate of others. He works in publishing and has an artistic bent.
