A tragedy has struck the S-league when Sinchi Chinese defender Jiang Tao passed away on Wednesday after being struck by lightning while training at Jurong stadium.

The training session was held under a light drizzle but there was no sign of thunder or lightning before the incident.

Jiang Tao, who hailed from Jilin in China, was considered one of the club's most talented youngsters & was expected to make his S.League debut against Woodlands Wellington after good performances in the Singapore Prime League.

S-League CEO Chan King Fook stated words are inadaquate to express the sadness for the tragedy & the deepest condolences go to Jiang's family & to Sinchi.

The S-League is ready to render help to his family & club.

As a mark of respect, Sinchi's match with Woodlands Wellington, scheduled for Thursday, has been postponed to Saturday.

There will also be a minute's silence before all matches this week.
