December 4, 2004

The hero back in 1998 in the Tiger Cup Final against Vietnam, Sasi Kumar looked to be really on his way out of Singapore football as the ex-Protectors defender is departing for Australia where he had got a job as a sport event organiser.

Sasi Kumar had in December 2003 retired from professional football but he chose to remain intact with Singapore football by playing for FA Cup Champion NFL Tampines SC but he soon make a return to the S-league with Home United in the June mid-season transfer window.

However he rarely make an appearance for the Protectors as Aide, Subramani & Siva Kumar kept him out of the first team whenever they were available. Therefore it was no surprised when the season ended the Protectors chose not to extend his stay with the Bishan based club.

Now there can be no return as he will be in for the foreseeable future in his new job.

He said in Australia as there are more sport events all year around unlike in Singapore where events are limited so he has a better future as a sport event organizer there.

Asked if he still could be back & playing in the S-league, he felt is near to impossible as he is already near the age of 30 & with no idea how long he would be in Australia he would well be in his mid 30s or late 30s before ever coming back to Singapore if he does come back.
