LINE-UP STATUS FOR S.LEAGUE 2005

The S-League will have a new team for the 2005 season. Paya Lebar Football Club (PLKFC)'s application to join the S-league has been approved by the S-League SBU, making them the first new local team to enter the S-League since Clementi Khalsa in 1999.

It joins the 6 other local clubs Balestier Khalsa, Tampines Rovers, Woodlands Wellington, Home United, SAFFC and Geylang United. The 2 foreign teams, Japanese side Albirex Niigata and China's Sinchi FC, as well as the Young Lions, are the other confirmed teams for the new season.

Paya Lebar will focus their efforts on the S-League and Prime League for 2005 and will use the Hougang Stadium as their home ground for next season due to their strong connections to the area. Paya Lebar and Sengkang Marine are also in preliminary discussions with a view to collaborate in various areas.

"I am delighted that our application has been approved, said Mr Tay Yong Kwee, PBM, chairman of PLKFC. "Paya Lebar Kovan is not here to just make up the numbers, we are going to work hard on putting on a credible showing in our first season and finish in a respectable position."

Said Mr How Seen Yong, Deputy CEO, S-League, "The coming season promises to be a good one. I am certainly excited that a new team is joining the S-League. The increased competitiveness of the League as seen last season will gain further momentum and provide fans and sponsors much to look forward to in 2005."

The other team applying to participate in the S-League next season, Planet FC, is in final negotiations with the S-League SBU and a decision will be made in due course.
