Tanjong Pagar United to Sit-out 2005 S-league season
Tanjong Pagar United FC
have announced that they will not participate in the 2005 season of the S-League.
Despite their recent efforts to secure
sponsors and the appointment of sports promotion company Advantage MCS, the
management of Tanjong Pagar
United, after consultation with the S-League SBU, have decided to withdraw from
the S-League for at least one season.
“We have lost the race against time to
secure sponsorship and have decided to sit out for 2005,” said club
Vice-Chairman Edmund Wee. “Tanjong Pagar will continue to work hard and take this time to
reassess and when the time is right, we’ll apply to be a part of the S-League
again.”
Tanjong Pagar’s advisor, Mr Chng Jit
Koon has been informed of the decision. The club will
continue with all its’ other activities, including its’ youth development and
Centre of Excellence programs. In addition, ex-chairman Matthew Kang will
continue to assist the club where necessary, particularly in the area of fund
raising.
“I would like to thank all the loyal Tanjong Pagar fans and sponsors
for their unstinting support through thick and thin. Even though we will not be
taking part in the S-League next year, we will still function like any other
football club and continue to groom future generations of footballers,” added Mr Wee.
Said Mr Chan
King Fook, CEO, S-League, “We’ve had many discussions
with Matthew and company on this in recent days and in the final analysis have
to agree, albeit most regrettably, that their decision to sit-out is best for
all parties concerned.”
