Already facing a tough fight to stay in the S-league it now appeared doom for the club as Tanjong Pagar United chairman Mathew Kang resigned less than a year after taking over the reins at Queenstown Stadium.

Kang, 43, informed Football Association of Singapore president Ho Peng Kee & the Tanjong Pagar United management committee of his decision yesterday.

He said this year has been a roller-coaster ride. I gave it my best shot pumping in money into Tanjong Pagar & roping in a number of good friends to help but somehow, it seemed to be heading anywhere. Therefore enough is enough. I have decided to move on & give someone who might have more vigour, & perhaps more financial clout, to take over.

Meanwhile Kang has recommended his deputy, vice-chairman Edmund Wee, to take over.

His regret as he departs is not living up to the promise he made to the fans to bring back the glory days he felt he left the club in good hands & will continue to help Tanjong Pagar from the sidelines.
