Emgar Gonclaves issused statement to explain his decision
Media Release
Home United FC would like to refer to the Straits Times articles written by Marc Lim and Peh Shing Huei "Bye bye, Singapore", (Sat 31 Jan 2004) and "Bad move, Egmar", (Tue 3 Feb 2004).
We would like to help Egmar clarify the following matters and explain his position by issuing his official statements:
On his visits to Brazil
Egmar, "My mother and family are residing in Brazil. It’s only natural that I return home annually to visit and spend time with them. These yearly gatherings with my family have become a practice for us over the last eight years I have stayed in Singapore."
On hanging up his boots
Egmar, "I’m already in my thirties and I have to think of my future after football. There are several plans and options but I have not decided on any as yet."
On his Singapore citizenship
Egmar, "I have never said that I was going to give up my Singaporean citizenship after my playing days."
We hope to help clear the misunderstandings that arise from his telephone interview with The Straits Times reporters.
