There are
only a few occasions when the hype before a sporting contest is justified but
the battle of the two titans at Tampines is worthy of
the hype.
Billed as the
S-League title decider, the fixture between defending champions Home United and
Tampines Rovers will have a decisive bearing on
whether the S-League title ends up in the familiar surrounds of Bishan or in the new frontiers of Tampines.
A single
point separates current league leaders Tampines
Rovers & reigning Double champions Home United, and with 4 matches to go,
so six-pointer will give the psychological edge to the winner.
Not
surprisingly, though, both sides are tying to play down the significance of the
occasion.
Home United
coach Steve Darby said People say it is their most important game of the
season, but if they had not won last
week it would not be the most important game & the reality is that they got
12 points to play for including the Stags game, & only if they get all 12
points will they win the title.
But the
impact of a victory for either side cannot be understated.
Stags Sead Muratovic admitted the game against Home is a very
important game for them & if they avoid defeat then they will go on to win
the title.
Also he felt it is the Protectors who have to worry about them because they are top of the table & burning with confidence having done an excellent job this season.
