For most
S-League clubs, the season is just about drawing to a close with 5 matches to
go but not in the case of reigning double champions Home United as it must feel
like a mid-season instead for on top of their title charge they also have Singapore
Cup & AFC Cup campaigns to deal with.
With all
that the Protectors would still have at least 10, & possibly up to 14,
games left.
Therefore
it is not surprising after battling on 3 fronts the thought of finishing the
season empty-handed is a terrifying one. But for Home coach Steve Darby, such
dismal thoughts are a source of inspiration as he knows the players would be
absolutely devastated if that happened & they would not let it happen as
everything is still in their own hands on all 3 fronts.
Darby said he
believed his team got that winning mentality any championship team have & not a single one will let the team down.
However the
physical demands of Home United season exceed that of most of their rivals &
it could be a physical strain on the Double Champion.
Darby admitted
that is probably his biggest worry as they have played 29 matches so far & that
is more than anybody else, other than Geylang United but
he would rather they had to play all these games, because that means they are
winning & nothing is more important than that.
