A night to forget for the Stags to forget as they were whipped 4-0 by the youthful Young Lions

The first goal set the pattern for the game as Mustaqim cut in from the left, shrugged off 2 challenges from Stags defenders & angled in a shot that went in right at the corner of the left post.

With Mirko Grabovac missing from the Tampines Rovers line-up, the Stags lacked weight in attack & appeared lost without their top-scorer. This allowed the Young Lions to sit back comfortably waiting for the Stags to make the mistakes coming forward & at the first opportunity, launch counter-attacks spearheaded by Agu Casmir & Fadzuhasny Juraimi.

8 minutes into the second half, the Young Lions doubled their lead as a free kick which was relayed across the length of the pitch before Ridhuan Muhammad centred the ball, landed at the feet of Shahril. Shahril showed presence of mind, relaying back to Mustaqim to tap in a deserved second goal for the Young Lions.

Courtesy of a lightning quick break, Ridhuan, who received the ball wide on the right, cut in & crossed for Agu who muscled his way past a Tampines defender to reach the cross heading it beyond Rezal.

Having sewn up the game, the Young Lions managed another goal the Stags seemed to give up on the game. Khairul Amri broke free from the close marking of three Tampines defenders and went on to curl the ball around Rezal Hassan, capping another memorable victory for the Young Lions.

The hapless Chinese side Sinchi was another side whipped on the same night as the league leader the Rams thrashed them 5-1 at Hougang

The Rams totally dominated the match & pushed the Chinese side back right from the first whistle. They were to get the lead they richly deserved on when a cut-back from the right was allowed to run all the way to Kim Eun Cher at the edge of the box. The Korean gratefully rifled it home &the Rams were up 1-0. Before half-time, the effervescent John Wilkinson chased what looked like a lost cause before crossing from the by-line. His cross found its way among a group of players in the box to Park Kung Gay, who slotted the ball home.

So often been the case this season, Woodlands then went to sleep in the second period, allowing Sinchi to control territory & dictate play. The Rams were starting to look vulnerable, especially on the flanks, where Vincent Sim and Nasirrudin Sawardi were having problems dealing with diagonal balls. They were punished. After yet another cross-field pass eluded the Woodlands defence, allowing Sinchi to advance to the by-line, Yazid screamed for defensive cover in the centre. Although there were defenders in the area, the marking was abysmal as Shi Jiayi was allowed to jump & head unmarked past Yazid Yasin.

Rams were stung & immediately stepped up a gear. Any anxieties were quickly assuaged when John Wilkinson got the third goal. As the Sinchi defence failed to clear the ball properly, John Wilkinson pounced on the bouncing loose ball & fired a firm volley into the corner of the net. The next goal came when Park shot when clean through was half saved by Chen Si as the ball spun wickedly & bounced backwards into the goal. Later Ahmad Latiff latched on to the ball after an initial P. Sugunan cross, checked a number of times, and then fired a rasping shot into the corner of the net for 5-1 to Woodlands Wellington

Albirex Niigata

Aleksandar Duric 38'

Issey Nakajima 35'

A draw which did neither team any good in their chase to get into the top3.

Nakajima’s mazy dribble took the striker easily past Noh Rahman, allowing him to enter the penalty area. His intended pass to Sueoka ricocheted off Razaleigh Khalik & into his own path, leaving him free to slot the ball past Shahril at the near post. But the Eagles came back with an instant reply through their very own No.9 three minutes later. Rudy Khairon, the hero of their 1-0 win in the recent midweek AFC cup match, flight a perfect free-kick into the Albirex Niigata box which found Aleksandar Duric to plant a header past the hapless Nobuhiro Maeda in goal.
