For the first time in S-League history, beer can be sold at stadiums in Singapore.

The Liquor Licensing Board have granted licences to the 10 S-League clubs to sell alcohol on matchdays, & local brew Tiger Beer will be the drink of choice. Each cup of beer will cost $5.

At the moment beer can only be sold & consumed in designated areas, not in the stands. The guidelines also state that beer must be served in cups & there must be no sale to anyone under 18.

However, it is understood that the clubs are asking the authorities to give the green light for fans to consume their beer in the stands in a designated section. For now, fans will have to drink up before taking their seats.

Not that the fans mind, as fans felt it is a good move to head down to a stadium after work & enjoy a game of football with a cold beer.

However the Football Association of Singapore (FAS) said the sale of beer at stadiums will only be approved if the clubs are able to fulfil the guidelines. A FAS spokesperson say beer operators must exercise caution & not sell to those whom they feel have had one too many. There will also be more security deployed to ensure peace & order.
