Chinggis Khan's old capital

Charchorin was once Karakorum, the capital of the Mongolian empire under Chinggis Khan. But later every building was destroyed, and the monastery of Erdenedsuu was built from the rubble.

It's one of the more spectacular Buddhist monasteries in the country.
