| In the 1930's Platte Avenue would have been one of the main portals into Colorado Springs. Since General Palmer oriented Pikes Peak Avenue directly with the peak, Platte, just three blocks north (and parallel) also allowed for a dramatic backdrop of scenery. Compare the 1930's postcard photo with the 2008 photo of the same area...the silver light poles appear to be the originals. The 1930's saplings are hidden behind the junipers. |
