Ahh...HOME!!!
Northern California is one of my homes. It's so nice, beautiful, laid back, and yet we are still ahead of all the other cities industrially. Hey, we have the Silicon Valley, and then we also have Napa Valley. It's definately different and it has so many different influences, and a whole lot of character.
Here are the cities and locales in Cali that I love and why....
San Francisco: Hey, I know, what you're thinking....but there are alot of different communities besides the Castro, and Height-Ashbury in San Francisco. It's a city that is not a concrete jungle. It's has gorgeous buildings, and alot of parks. It's a very romantic city. It's also close to the water, which I love.
Monterey:Well, one of the things I love about Monterey is the scenery. I just love the dramatic California coastline. It kinda makes me appreciate Okinawa better, with it's tropical beaches and bright blue water. But Monterey has some good waves and I love seeing the fog roll in. Really nice.
San Jose:Always sunny, always hot. Very busy city. I think it's the biggest city in the Bay Area, it's not that expensive. At least not as expensive as SF but it's getting there. It's so nice to see San Jose expand and become a major industrial market.
Travis AFB:What can I say, I spent 8 years of my life here. It used to be much more exciting to me and when I went back. I was kinda disappointed. I mean, I love living on Travis. Seeing the cargo planes flying overhead was part of a regular day. I miss that now. (Well, I do live kinda by the Oakland Airport, so I do get those moments)My parents live in Vacaville now so I ocassionally still go to Travis, but I can't imagine being stationed there anymore, after being in Okinawa.
Berkeley:It's very...uh...different. Berkeley is where my dad and his family kinda grew up, but it's changed ALOT over the years. I know the old hippies grew old around there, and sometimes you still see hints of the old days.
OAKLAND:One of my homes, across the bay from San Francisco. Home of the Raiders and the A's. I used to live on the North side of Oakland, down the freeway from High and MacArthur. I still go there very often and of course I gotta cheer for my Raiders!
