| Candle magick is one of the oldest forms of magick. This page will give you valuable information on the use of candles in your spell work. |
| Dressing Candles |
| To dress a candle you can use any oil you wish. I prefer rose, lotus, or olive oil but any will work. You can also choose a scent that corresponds with the color of the candle you will be using. First consecrate the oil to the Lord and Lady (or whichever diety you prefer). To draw something to you rub the oil on to the candle from the ends to the middle. To repel rub from middle to the ends. As you are rubbing the candle visualize your goal and energize the candle by visualizing your magickal energies being transfered to the candle as you rub it. When you are done dressing the candle dab a bit of the remaining oil on your third eye then your breastbone. Say "I cleanse and consecrate this taper in the name of the God and Goddess. May it burn in strength and service of the Light." State the purpose of your candle and inscribe with runes if you like with your athame. Light your candle while visualizing your goal. Meditate on your goal and visualize it being done as you watch the flame dance. If the spell you are working requires you to let the candle burn out completely I suggest using birthday candles or tea-lights unless you have the time to sit in meditation for a few hours. If you have to extinguish the flame or if the spell calls for the candle to th burned over a period of days use a candle snuffer to put it out. NEVER blow a candle out. It is said that if you blow the candle out you are blowing away your magick. If you don't have a snuffer you can gently wave your hand over the flame till it goes out. When you are done, keep the drippings and you have a couple of choices of what to do with them. To draw the magick to you bury the drippings on your property. To repel bury them off your property. You can also place the drippings in a charm bag and carry it with you until the goal has been achieved (this is only recommended for spells that draw something to you ). |
