Part 1

Buffy sat watching her Watcher. She giggled at that thought. Such a serious man. She wasn't sure if she liked him. Hearing her giggle Merrick turned to Buffy with a frown.

"You don't take me or your destiny serious. I fear you will not last long. I have no idea what the bloody Council is thinking. Sending you to fight him."

Buffy frowned, "Him, who?"

Merrick grinned, "Ah got your attention. Him the most fiercest of vampires. The Scourge of Europe....Angelus that is who."

Buffy shrugged, "Wow sounds pretty evil."

Merrick shook his head, "Evil doesn't even begin to describe him. Evil fears him."

Buffy stood up, "Ah sounds like someone I so don't want to meet."

Merrick sighed, "I am afraid you will. I am to prepare you."

Buffy stared at him, "Tell me more about this Angelus."

Merrick sat down, "Sired in 1753 which makes him a young vampire. Comes from Ireland. His sire is Darla another rather evil creature. He is well known for torturing his victims. Raping women. Stalking women he takes a fancy to before he has his way with them. Oh and he has killed eleven Slayers so far. He is itching for number twelve."

Buffy gave a weak smile, "Oh Slayers eleven. Um why don't the Council just take him out?"

Merrick picked up a book, "He's very smart. He doesn't settle down for long in one place, that is until now. Sunnydale California he moved in a few months ago. After your training we will travel there. Find him and then take him out."

Buffy laughed, "Boy you sure have big plans. If he's as smart as you say he probably already knows all about me. Might even be expecting me."

Merrick nodded, "You may be right."

A few weeks later Buffy packed the last of Merrick's belongings. Dead, and she felt as if it was her fault. But he had taught her many things. Buffy picked up the book with the only known picture of Angelus. A drawing in black and white. Just a profile and old. His hair was long and pulled back in a pony tail. What little of his face that showed looked pure evil.

Two months later:

Buffy stared at her Mother, "What? We are moving where?"

Joyce smiled, "Sunnydale. I got a job there with the local museum also there is this little art gallery that I will work at. Maybe even take it over."

Buffy sighed, "I guess that's good then?"

Joyce smiled, "It is. Since your Father walked out on us I have been so worried about what to do and then this offer just came out of the blue."

Buffy smiled, "Imagine that."

That night Buffy made sure her bedroom door was locked. She opened the old leather trunk that had belonged to Merrick. She took out the books with information on Angelus.

Buffy reread some of what Merrick had told her to read. Buffy sighed as she read. Eleven Slayers. Six in Europe. One in Russia. One in Egypt. One in Australia and two here in the states. He sure got around she thought. Another thing she noted he had a thing for convents and nuns. A real sweet guy.

Sighing Buffy put the books back in the trunk. Now it's my turn to meet up with him.

Part 2

Sunnydale California:

Buffy looked around the campus of Sunnydale High. A typical Southern California school. Hard to believe that evil lurked underneath. Sighing Buffy headed for the Principal's office.

Buffy sat in class, bored. No books so she couldn't keep up with the teacher. A pretty brunette smiled and handed her over her book.

Buffy smiled, "Thanks."

"My name is Cordelia. If you need books go to the library."

Buffy nodded, "Cool, I'll check it out."

Lunch hour... Buffy stepped into the library. Dark and musty. But not too bad really. No one seemed to be around.

"Is anyone here?" Buffy asked rather loudly.

An older gentleman stepped out of a small office. Nice looking with dark hair with a few streaks of gray. Round, wire rimmed glasses. He wore a pair of dark brown corduroy pants and a tan sweater.

"Miss Summers?"

Buffy was surprised at the British accent, "Yes. I need books."

"Ah well, you have come to the right place. I am Rupert Giles."

Buffy nodded, "Not from around here."

Giles smiled, "No. And neither are you. I do believe we are here for the same reason."

Buffy looked around, "Watcher?"

Giles smiled slightly and nodded, "Yes. So sorry about Merrick."

Buffy nodded, "I should have been there."

Giles shook his head, "He was known for not going by the rules. He hated vampires to a fault."

Buffy shrugged, "I learned a lot from him. So what about this Angelus?"

Giles leaned against the desk, "He is in town. Have yet to hear anything though about where he is staying."

Buffy sighed, "He probably knows about us."

Giles looked at her, "I fear you may be right."

The library door swung opened. A red haired girl entered. She smiled when she spotted Giles and Buffy.

"Mr. Giles um hi."

Giles smiled, "Hello, Willow this is Buffy Summers the new girl in school. She came here for the books she'll need. You know more about this place than I do why don't you help her out."

Willow grinned at Buffy, "Welcome to Sunnydale. So books, I am the one you need."

Buffy smiled, "Nice to meet you."

Willow pointed, "The books for classes are in that room."

Buffy followed Willow over to the small storage room. Glancing over her shoulder Buffy felt as if she was being watched.

Part 3

That evening Buffy sighed as she stepped out of her house. The night was nice and warm for early September. Buffy looked around as she headed for the Bronze. The place to go in town according to Cordelia.

Buffy stopped and looked around as she passed an alley. She caught sight of a shadowy movement. Not wanting to invite trouble she hurried past the alley. Still the feeling of being followed persisted.

The Bronze at last. Buffy looked the building over. Nothing impressive. Hearing a noise behind her Buffy turned. All she saw was the flash of what looked like a huge black dog disappearing into a nearby alley.

Inside the Bronze Buffy spotted Willow with a dark haired guy. Buffy smiled. His name was Xander if she recalled correctly. She had English with him. Buffy went over to the table they were sitting at.

Buffy smiling, "Hey, Willow and Xander right?"

Willow grinned, "Oh hi Buffy you made it."

Xander smiled shyly, "Buffy the new girl in town. Welcome."

Buffy glanced around the room, "Crowded"

Willow sighed, "Yeah some nights it's standing room only. We got lucky and grabbed a table. Oh look here comes Jessie."

A tallish, skinny guy walked up, "Whoa Xander how do you rate? Two hotties."

Xander shook his head, "Be nice. This is Buffy Summers the new girl in town."

Just then Cordelia and her followers entered the Bronze. Jessie watched her every move. Cordelia breezed by them as if they didn't exist.

Xander poked Jessie on the chest, "Give it up she is way out of your league you don't have a chance with her."

Jessie shrugged, "As long as I live I will be in hot pursuit of Cordelia she is my every fantasy."

Slow music started. Buffy felt a tingle almost. A hand gently tapped her on the shoulder.

"May I have this dance?"

Buffy looked up into the most beautiful dark brown eyes. In fact he was the handsomest man she'd ever seen.

Buffy nodded, "Sure."

He took her hand and led her out to the dance floor. Buffy felt almost breathless.

"What is your name?"

Buffy grinned, "I am Buffy."

"What an unusual name."

Buffy loved the way he moved so graceful. He held her just right. No roaming hands. After the music stopped Buffy sighed. She could dance all night with this man. With a smile he led her back to Willow and Xander.

"Thank you for the dance, we must do it again soon."

Buffy shook her head, "Yeah, thanks, soon."

Buffy watched as the dark mysterious stranger disappeared into the crowd.

Part 4

Buffy sighed, "I should be getting home."

Xander smiled, "Hey let me drive you. I managed to get the car tonight."

Buffy smiled, "Sure that sounds great. I am tired."

Willow grinned, "Cool hey maybe we could get some ice cream?"

Buffy nodded, "Sounds like a plan."

Buffy and Willow followed Xander out of the Bronze. He pointed to the left.

"Had to park over there."

Buffy glanced around, "Kind of a dark spot."

Xander nodded, "Yeah all the good places were taken."

As they neared the car Buffy's senses went off. She picked up her pace, "Guys let's hurry."

Willow frowned, "Why?"

Just then a blonde dressed in a school uniform stepped out of the shadows. She was followed by five men. What little light reflected off their faces. Faces that were distorted. Willow gasped. Xander grabbed Willow's hand. Buffy shoved them towards the car.

"Get in the car now."

Blonde female, "Ah geez we just want to have dinner."

Buffy shook her head, "Not on my watch."

Xander managed to get Willow into the car. They stared as Buffy began fighting the creatures. Her punches and kicks were precise. Willow stared as first one vampire then another suddenly burst into dust.

The blonde female and the other two stepped back. Buffy kept her eye on all of them. Suddenly a dark shape leapt unto the hood of the car. A huge, black wolf stood there. Snarling at the combatants.

The blonde female turned to the others, "Leave now."

They faded into the shadows. The wolf snarled at Buffy before raising it's head and howling.

Buffy stood there stunned. The wolf gave one last look at Buffy. It leapt off the car and ran off into the night.

Buffy got in the car, "Well that was embracing."

Xander glanced at Willow, "Look who the hell are you?"

Buffy gave a nervous giggle, "Does it matter?"

Xander nodded, "In this town it does. See there are rules. They are we don't talk or even think about the odd things that go on in town."

Buffy sighed, "Look guys what I am about to tell you is top secret. See I am a vampire slayer."

Willow stared at Buffy, "So is that some sort of super hero?"

Buffy shrugged, "I am no Superman but I am different. Stronger, heal faster those sort of things."

Xander nodded, "Makes sense. Look we won't say a word to anyone. In my opinion it's about time something was done about the unmentionable ones."

Willow sighed, "Mr. Giles does he have some connection to you?"

Buffy frowned, "Why do you ask?"

Willow gulped, "I accidentally opened a box of books that were his and I saw books on vampires and other demons."

Buffy sighed, "He is what is called my Watcher. He is to train me and teach me about evil things. That too is a secret. Look I will have to tell him about tonight."

Willow shrugged, "That's fine with me."

Xander pulled up in front of Buffy's house, "Sorry about no ice cream just didn't feel in the mood. We'll see you in school."

Buffy got out of the car, "Thanks for the ride home."

Xander shrugged, "No biggie."

Buffy watched as Xander drove off. Sighing she went inside. Her Mother was just heading up the stairs.

Joyce smiled at her, "Good you're home. Have a nice time?"

Buffy grinned, "Lot's of fun. Xander and Willow brought me home."

Joyce nodded, "That's good well night."

Buffy smiled at her, "Night Mom."

Buffy sighed as she went up to her own room.

Part 5

Giles listened to Buffy's account of the night before. Frowning he removed his glasses.

"So a huge wolf appeared. How interesting. Was it sort of man shaped?"

Buffy shook her head, "No it was all wolf. Oh you're thinking werewolf. No full moon."

Giles nodded, "Yes of course. Makes me wonder though."

The school bell rang, "Oh have a class, chemistry I think." Buffy stated as she grabbed her books.

Later after school in the library. Willow and Xander were waiting for Buffy. Giles stood near by looking through some old leather bound journals. Buffy breezed in and dropped her books on a table.

"Hi guys."

Willow smiled, "Hi."

Xander only nodded his head. Giles closed the journal he was reading.

"Ah good. I wanted to talk to the three of you. Buffy last night was unfortunate in that Willow and Xander here witnessed your abilities to fight and kill vampires. Usually Slayers work alone and in secret. The two of you must not tell anyone about Buffy or I for that matter. The fortunate side to this is that the two of you know this town. So you shall be of some help. Are you willing to keep quiet and help out?"

Willow nodded, "I am I mean last night was so awesome and scary seeing Buffy kick those vampire's asses. I just know I can be of help."

Xander sat back and folded his hands, "I have thought about last night and I think it is about time that someone teaches the non humans who live here a thing or two. So yeah count me in."

Giles smiled slightly, "Good. Now as for this wolf have either of you seen or heard anything?"

Willow frowned, "About six months ago he started being seen...again."

Giles stared at Willow, "What do you mean again?"

Xander sighed, "For years now this wolf shows up and is spotted around town. Sometimes he is near a body. Usually female."

Giles perched on the edge of the table, "Throat ripped out?"

Willow shook her head, "No just two bite marks and no blood."

Giles stood up and went over to the journals he'd been reading, "Oh my we may have a vampire who is also a shape shifter."

Buffy stared at Giles, "What? Shape shifter? Merrick never said anything about that."

Giles nodded, "Yes, some vampires have that ability. Very few and mostly the older ones."

Buffy shook her head, "Great just what I needed."

Xander sighed, "Have any idea who it might be?"

Giles thumbed through the journals, "Not really."

Buffy began to pace a little, "Could it be this Angelus I am to fight?"

Giles looked up, "I hope it isn't."

Willow frowned, "Angelus who is he?"

Buffy sighed, "One of the most evil vampires to walk the earth. He has killed eleven Slayers already."

Xander gulped, "And you are to fight him?"

Buffy shrugged, "Yeah."

Willow shook her head, "But you could die."

Buffy looked down at her hands, "That's what Slayers do fight and die. One Slayer dies another one is called. That's my fate and duty."

Xander and Willow both stared at their new friend. Both felt a wave of sadness for her.

Part 6

A few weeks later.....

Buffy stomped into the library. Giles looked up from the books he was checking in. Buffy tossed her jacket and books on a near by table.

"Giles I swear this wolf is stalking me. I see him everywhere I go at night. He lurks in the shadows and watches me. I have seen him in my front yard under the tree. And last night he was on my roof."

Giles sighed, "After careful research I have reason to believe that the wolf is indeed Angelus."

Buffy stared at Giles, "I was afraid of that. It's creeping me out."

Giles nodded, "I would imagine so. Buffy please be extra careful, if he can shape shift there is no telling what else he is capable of doing."

Buffy gave a weak smile, "I will be. God this is crazy. What does he want?"

Giles shrugged, "I have no idea."

In the stacks a slight shadow moved away. Buffy looked around. She frowned she felt a tingling feeling go through her.

"Giles are you sure we are the only ones here?" Buffy asked.

Giles frowned, "Why yes I am quite sure."

Buffy looked around, "Mind if I make sure?"

Giles shook his head, "No go right ahead."

Buffy gave the library a thorough search. Something just didn't feel right. Buffy went back down to where Giles stood.

Buffy frowning, "I think we need to make this place more secure. I just got the feeling we were being watched."

Giles nodded, "I'll look into it. You need to get to class."

Buffy picked up her books, "Right, school. See you later."

That evening Buffy sat with Willow and Xander at the Bronze. It was Friday and so was packed.

A group called Dingos Ate My Baby were on stage. Buffy noticed that Willow kept staring at the guitar player with bright purple hair.

Buffy poked her in the ribs, "Someone has a crush."

Willow blushed, "He's so cool his name is Oz and he is one of the cool guys in school a senior."

Buffy smiled, "Ah I see. So where is Jessie?"

Xander sighed, "Haven't seen him in a few days. He put the moves on Cordelia the other night and she royally brushed him off. He gets moody when that happens."

Buffy looked up. The handsome stranger she had danced with entered the Bronze. Buffy felt tingly all over. He looked across the room right into her eyes. Buffy felt herself go all warm. He walked towards her slowly through the crowd.

Stopping in front of Buffy, "Let's dance."

Buffy stood up and smiled at him, "Ok."

He led her out onto the dance floor. He pulled her close. Buffy sighed and laid her head on his shoulder.

In a very soft voice he whispered, "You are meant for me. You are the one I have been waiting for."

Buffy sighed as his words gently flowed through her mind. His words did not bother her. She felt as is he was right. That she belonged with him.

After the dance he led her back to her friends. He raised her hand and kissed her palm. Buffy tingled at his gentle touch.

"We will meet again." He whispered before turning and walking away.

Buffy watched as he disappeared into the crowd. There was something about him that left her breathless.

Part 7.

Buffy watched as the wolf sat under the tree near her window. Opening her window she gave a soft whistle. The wolf's ears moved slightly. Buffy watched as it effortlessly leapt onto the porch roof near her window. It kept a few paces away.

Buffy softly whispered, "Ok wolf look if you're Angelus fine. I am tired of these games it's a little too weird being stalked by a wolf."

The wolf stepped closer. It sniffed the air before turning and leaping off the porch roof.

Buffy watched as it loped out of sight. As Buffy started to close the window she heard the wolf howl several times.

That night Buffy dreamed of the mysterious stranger. Of the wolf and blood.

When Buffy woke up the next morning she found a blood red rose just outside of her window. She picked it up. Angelus, it had to be. She figured that now the fun would begin.

On Monday Buffy informed Giles about the weekend events. Giles sighed as he listened to Buffy.

Giles glanced around, "Buffy we have no idea what Angelus really looks like. He could approach you with ease."

Buffy frowned, "I think he has at the Bronze twice. The first time I went there a good looking man asked me to dance. Then Friday he was there again and we danced again. He was so charming."

Giles sat down, "Oh Buffy you are probably right. Do you recall anything he said to you?"

Buffy shook her head, "Truthfully no."

The library door slammed open. Willow and Xander both rushed in. Buffy and Giles stared at the pair. They both noticed the look of worry on their faces.

"What's wrong?" Buffy asked.

Willow sighed, "It's Jessie he's missing."

Buffy frowned, "Oh how long?"

Xander shook his head, "The last time he was in school was sometime last week. I tried calling and got no answer and when I rang the doorbell nothing."

Buffy shook her head, "Damn."

Giles sighed, "If he has been turned be very careful. He will come after you and his family. Anyone he had contact with."

Willow glanced at Xander, "He is obsessed with Cordelia."

Buffy nodded, "Is she around?"

Xander grinned, "Yeah just saw her."

Buffy sighed, "Good. Maybe he wasn't turned."

Giles shook his head, "Still be very careful as for Cordelia we need to find a way to keep an eye on her until we know for sure."

Willow frowned, "I have three classes with her."

Xander nodded, "I have two but one of those is with Willow."

Buffy sighed, "We mostly need to keep an eye on her at night or in dark places."

The warning bell for classes rang. Willow, Xander and Buffy all groaned. Giles watched as the three of them hurried off to class.

Buffy stuck to the shadows as she followed Cordelia around that evening. She couldn't believe how unconcerned Cordelia was for her safety. In this town especially. Buffy followed Cordelia to her car. Catching movement near another car. Buffy gasped as Jessie stepped from the darkness.

Quickly Buffy ran across the parking lot. Jessie was standing in front of Cordelia holding one of her arms. It was obvious she was struggling with him.

Buffy yelled out, "Hey there you are."

Jessie turned towards Buffy. He backed away from Cordelia. He turned and ran off into the night.

Cordelia looked over at Buffy, "Well, thanks. He sure was acting weird. I mean more so than usual."

Buffy sighed, "Yeah he isn't himself any more so try not to be out at night alone. Get my drift?"

Cordelia gasped, "You mean he is one them now?"

Buffy nodded, "Yes and you think he was a problem when human now he is beyond that he is dangerous."

Cordelia looked around, "Let me take you home."

Buffy shrugged, "Thanks."

At Buffy's house she turned to Cordelia, "Go straight home. No stops and if you have a cross or anything like that carry it in your hand. Oh here is a wooden stake. Aim for the heart."

Cordelia nodded, "Ok why are you so well prepared and knowledgeable about them?"

Buffy sighed, "Not tonight. Come to the library at school tomorrow after classes."

Cordelia took the wooden stake, "Will do."

Buffy got out of the car, "Thanks for the ride and do be very careful."

Buffy sighed as she watched Cordelia drive away. Looking around she hurried inside.

Part 8.

The following afternoon. School finally let out. Buffy, Willow and Xander hurried to the library. She hadn't told them yet about the night before. Arriving at the library they spotted Cordelia going through the doors.

Xander looked at Buffy, "Cordelia wonder what she wants?"

Buffy shrugged, "I asked her to meet me here."

Willow and Xander exchanged looks as they followed Buffy into the library. Cordelia was standing there arms folded looking around.

Spotting Buffy, Cordelia gave a half smile, "Ah you're here good."

Buffy held up one of her hands, "Don't say a word until I am through."

Cordelia gave her a look, "Fine."

Giles came out of his office, "Oh what's going on?"

Buffy turned to Willow and Xander, "I have bad news. Jessie is a vampire. He went after Cordelia last night."

Xander balled his hands into fists, "Damn I knew it."

Willow held back tears, "Oh...oh."

Buffy sighed, "I have to explain to Cordelia why I happened to be there and other things. So Giles one more is going to find out about me and well you."

Cordelia glanced at Buffy then at Giles, "Ok this is getting rather strange so you'd better explain and fast."

Buffy shrugged, "I fight vampires and other evils. It's my destiny. I am what is called a vampire slayer. Giles there is my Watcher."

Cordelia stood there, "Oh and so do you get like paid to do it?"

Giles stared at her, "I get a stipend from the Council but Buffy she doesn't. You don't seemed fazed by this."

Cordelia shrugged, "I grew up here nothing really surprises me. So this I take it this is a secret?"

Buffy nodded, "Yep it is."

Cordelia looked over at Willow and Xander, "Then how come they know?"

Buffy shrugged, "I saved them from some vampires."

Cordelia nodded, "Oh well, then that's good."

Giles sighed, "Yes. Now the three of you must be very careful. You being his friends Jessie will come after you."

Willow frowned, "What about his family?"

Giles sighed, "Yes them too."

Xander sighed, "His Dad is out of town. I think his folks are separated. It's just his Mom home alone."

Giles frowned, "If that is the case he may have already been there. Gotten an invite using his home as his lair. So just avoid the place."

Xander frowned, "The curtains were closed this morning. His Mom likes to open them as soon as the sun rises. Also their dog I didn't see him this morning."

Giles sighed, "Stay away is all I can say his Mother is probably dead and I would say not turned."

Cordelia frowned, "There is a dance this Saturday. Jessie kept pestering me to go with him. I told him no many times."

Buffy nodded, "He just make his move then. We all go and keep our eyes open for any trouble. We need to find and destroy him."

Willow gulped, "That sounds so final."

Xander nodded, "He's my friend I don't know if I could."

Giles sighed, "Your friend is dead. His soul is gone. It's his body but there is now a demon using it."

Buffy folded her arms, "I'll do the dirty work you guys just back me up and look for trouble."

Every one shook their head in agreement.

Part 9.

The night of the dance. Buffy walked through the gathering crowd. Cordelia was there dressed in a lovely dress of black with a high neck. A sliver cross gleamed from a thick chain around her neck. She was even wearing cross earrings.

Smiling Buffy went over to her, "Came prepared I see."

Cordelia nodded, "You bet. I even have holy water and a wooden stake both cleverly hidden."

Buffy shook her head, "Just be careful and don't try and be a hero."

Willow and Xander walked up, "I see you two are ready."

Buffy sighed, "Yeah I guess we are."

A little later on. Buffy stood with Giles and a Miss Calendar. They were two of the chaperones for the dance. Buffy was watching the door.

"Damn!!" Buffy stated.

Giles glanced up from his glass of punch, "What's wrong Buffy?"

"That female vamp and her friends just walked in and with them is Jessie."

Willow hurried over to Buffy, "Do you see who just got here?"

Buffy nodded, "Yep. Look guys try and get as many people out of here as possible and make sure there isn't more waiting outside."

Chaos erupted as three of the vampires made a grab for several of the dancers. Girls screamed, chairs crashed to the floor. Buffy plowed right in and began fighting. She managed to take out two of the vampires.

Miss Calendar and Willow were busy trying to herd the others through a side door. Giles had joined Buffy in the fracas. Two more vampires were dusted.

Jessie found Cordelia and grabbed her. She stuck her cross in his face, "I didn't like you as a human and I so definitely don't like you now."

Jessie smiled, "Don't be that way I can make sure you are beautiful forever."

Cordelia shook her head, "No thanks."

Xander grabbed Jessie, "Leave her alone."

Jessie turned to Xander, "Hey pal I could also make you young forever."

Xander sighed, "Fraid not."

Jessie leaned closer, "Hmm I never noticed but you don't smell all that human. How interesting."

Xander shook his head, "Won't work. Look you look like and sound like my friend Jessie but you aren't him."

Jessie, "Wrong Xander it is me just an improved version."

Xander gave a slight smiled, "Improved hardly."

Xander pulled out a wooden stake, "I am going to do the right thing and give you peace."

Jessie looked down at the stake, "Ah buddy can you really do it?"

Xander nodded and smiled, "Yes I can."

With a sigh Xander shoved the stake home. Right into the heart. Jessie instantly turned to dust. Xander looked at Cordelia with sadness in his eyes.

Across the room Buffy was fighting off two vampires. She managed to dust one. The other slammed her against the wall. She slid to the floor stunned. The blonde female walked up and smiled.

"She's mine go."

Buffy looked up, "You again."

"Yes, and this time the out come will be different."

Buffy started laughing, "Sorry but I don't think so."

A low growl behind the blonde vamp made her turn around, "You. Why can't you leave me alone?"

More snarling and growling. The wolf edged around the blonde vampire. Buffy kept a close eye on both of them.

"Fine I will go but we need to meet when you're in a better mood."

The blonde female vampire turned and ran off calling to the others to follow.

The wolf turned to Buffy and sniffed the air. He stared right into her eyes. Buffy stared back. She swore the wolf smiled before it turned and padded out of the building.

Soon the room was clear of the vampires and most of the humans. Buffy walked around checking on everyone. She found Xander and Cordelia standing together.

Buffy frowned, "Jessie what happened to him?"

Xander shrugged, "I did what had to be done. I staked him."

Buffy reached over and gave his hand a gentle squeeze, "That's good."

Willow hurried up, "Wow that was too much. But I don't think anyone got hurt or worse."

Giles walked, "Good job Buffy and Xander I saw what you did. That was very brave and noble of you. Your friend would be proud of you."

Xander shrugged, "I guess."

Cordelia took his arm, "He's right. I want to thank you for being there for me."

Xander stared at her, "Thanks. So who needs a ride home?"

Willow smiled, "I do."

Buffy nodded, "Same here."

Cordelia grinned, "My date is missing probably ran like a big baby so I could use a ride home."

Xander smiled a little, "Hey how lucky could a guy get three lovely ladies to escort home?"

Giles watched as Xander with the girls walked away. He shook his head and headed for his own car.

Part 10.

The night was sky was heavy with clouds. It had rained a little earlier. Buffy didn't really want to be out patrolling. But several deaths had occurred in Weatherly Park the last few nights. So here she was roaming around looking for vampires to slay.

"So you're the new Slayer?"

Buffy turned around. A blonde vampire, male stood there arrogantly. He looked Buffy up and down.

"A bit on the tiny side if you ask me."

Buff smiled, "And who might you be?"

"They call me Spike. I am one of the biggest and baddest vampires around."

Buffy shook her head, "Spike? You look more like a Billy Idol wanna be. As for big and bad I hear that a vampire named Angelus is the worst ever."

Spike snorted, "That old bastard. Maybe he was but he keeps a low profile of late. I now reign as the worst of the worst."

Buffy stepped into a fighting stance, "Prove it."

Spike grinned, "I'll be pleased to oblige you. Of course you know it'll be the end of you."

Spike grunted as Buffy punched him square in the jaw. Spike stepped back a pace or two. Buffy went after him. Spike kicked out knocking Buffy off her feet. Down she went. Spike jumped onto her. He grabbed her by the head and started to twist. Buffy managed to knock him off. She scrambled backwards and flipped into a standing position.

Spike pranced around her like a boxer in the ring. Buffy did a round house kick, knocking him to the ground. Buffy made a dive for him stake in hand. He brought his knees up and caught her in the stomach. Spike tossed her backwards. Buffy landed hard. Her head hit something solid. Everything began to get fuzzy.

Buffy became aware of growling and snarling. She tried to sit up but was too dizzy. Hearing Spike starting to speak she went still.

Spike: "Look mate I am not afraid of you like the others. This whole wolf in the face routine just won't work on me. Now be a man or vampire and show your true self."

"Fine you want to come face to face with me here I am."

Spike: "Angelus long time no see. Now go away I got me a Slayer to kill."

Angelus: "No can do. See this Slayer is mine. She belongs to me. Now leave."

Spike snorted, "Will not you have to make me."

Angelus growled low in his throat. Spike noticed the feral look in his eyes as he shifted into game face. Something was different. Spike backed up.

Spike: "Look I got better things to do than fight you. Fine you want the chit you can have her."

Angelus went over to where Buffy lay, "Don't move I smell blood."

Buffy mumbled, "No problem." She passed out.

Angelus sighed and looked around. Gently he picked Buffy up. He had to get help for her. He realized they weren't all that far from her Watcher's place.

Part 11.

An urgent knocking on his door made Giles look up from the book he was reading. Putting the book aside he went and opened the door. He was startled to see a man standing there holding Buffy in his arms. Upon further notice Giles realized it was a vampire. Even more so he had a feeling which one.

Giles with a frown, "Angelus I presume?"

Angelus nodded, "Yes now please invite me in. She needs help and now."

Giles looked at Buffy, "Invite you in? Do I look stupid?"

Angelus shifted Buffy slightly, "You have to trust me. I am not going to harm you. This is serious and also she is getting heavy for one so tiny."

Giles sighed, "Very well you may come in."

Angelus stepped over the threshold. He went straight to the couch and laid Buffy on it gently. Looking up at Giles.

Angelus: "Go get your first aid kit and a damp cloth."

Giles found himself doing as Angelus asked. When he returned he noticed that Angelus had covered Buffy up with the afghan that had been across the back of his couch.

Giles: "Here is what you asked for. What happened?"

Angelus took the items and knelt down next to the couch, "Spike went after her. I'm afraid that if I hadn't come along he might have killed her."

Giles nodded as he watched Angelus wipe some blood off of the side of Buffy head, "Oh and ah this makes me almost chuckle but how come you um saved her?"

Angelus frowned, "You really don't know?"

Giles shook his head, "Afraid not."

Angelus shook his head as he applied some antiseptic to the cut on the side of Buffy's head, "Merrick knew why do you think he was bringing her here? He was going to use her as bait to capture me."

Giles frowned, "Bait, capture I am confused."

Angelus shrugged, "Merrick was many things and has lived many lives. He has been after me for some time. Him and a mad man named Holtz. Holtz fortunately is very dead and buried. But Merrick managed to avoid death until now."

Giles frowned, "I still don't get the whole picture."

Angelus stood up, "She is my destiny. My twelfth slayer. But not to kill like the others. To take as my mate."

Giles gasped, "You are to turn her into the creature that you are?"

Angelus shook his head, "No she is to stay human."

Buffy began to moan. Both men looked down as she opened her eyes. She moved her hand to her head.

"Owww ohh."

Angelus quietly, "Be still you hit your head rather hard even for a Slayer."

Angelus turned to Giles, "I need to go. Look into the Duodecim Rosa Prophecies surely you have heard of them?"

Giles nodded, "Once or twice but why?"

Angelus smiled, "Look you will know."

With that Angelus quickly left Giles' apartment. Giles looked down at Buffy and sighed. Her eyes were closed. He could tell her breathing was even. She had fallen asleep.

Part 12.

Buffy spent the night sleeping on Giles' couch. The next morning found her injuries mostly healed. As Giles fixed her some breakfast he questioned her about the night before. Buffy gave him as much information as she could.

Giles served the eggs and toast, "One more thing did Merrick ever mention prophecies to you?"

Buffy took a bite of the eggs and thought as she chewed. Swallowing the bite, "Not much only that sometimes they don't tell the whole story. But there might be more in his journals and books."

Giles sighed, "Yes but the Council has them by now."

Buffy smiled, "No they don't I have them locked away. He told me if anything happened to him that I would have the real journals. That the Council would get the ones he prepared for them."

Giles gave Buffy an almost wicked grin, "Ah he didn't trust them. Well, neither do I. Eat and we can go look through his books."

Buffy was so glad her Mom was away. Entering the house she looked around still to make sure no one was there. She led Giles up to her room.

Buffy pulled the old leather trunk out of the closet, "Had a hard time explaining to my Mom why I had this old thing and that it had to come with me."

Buffy unlocked it and threw the lid open, "They are all here. Is there anything in particular you are looking for?"

Giles nodded, "Angelus mentioned a prophecy called the Duodecim Rosa."

Buffy shook her head, "Not familiar but then I haven't read everything here. Especially the ones in other languages."

Giles frowned, "Let me see those first."

Buffy picked up a wrapped bundle, "They are in here. He showed them to me but I haven't checked them out since he died."

Giles sat on the bed and unwrapped the books. He smiled when he saw what they were. Very carefully he looked through a couple of them.

Giles wrapped them up again, "I am taking these home. They are rare. I promise to keep good care of them."

Buffy shrugged, "Fine by me."

Giles nodded, "The other books and journals can you go through them?"

Buffy smiled, "Sure I know what's in most of them already."

Buffy locked the trunk and shoved it back into the closet. She followed Giles downstairs. He paused and turned to her.

"It's vital we find out what Angelus was talking about. I will say that whatever it is he was very serious about it."

Buffy sighed, "He has had several opportunities to take me out but he didn't. In fact he has saved my life several times. So far he hasn't shown any of that evil side I read about or was told about."

Giles frowned, "Very odd. Last night he was almost friendly. I could tell he was very worried about you."

Buffy opened the door and Giles stepped out of the house, "Do take care and go through those other books."

Buffy smiled, "I will."

Giles smiled and nodded as he turned to go. Buffy watched as he got in his car. Shutting the door she leaned against it and sighed. Shaking her head she went upstairs to shower and put on some clean clothes.
