Chapter 5

=======================

They brought the unicorn out next morning, it wore the golden bridle and nothing else. The King sat high in the stands as the unicorn was handed to Galen.

"You may remove the bridle at will young Galen, good luck."

Galen nodded, if he succeeded, he would be renowned as the great animal tamer, if he failed, it would be sudden death.

Celest looked at Anne. "What if Galen fails?"

Anne shrugged. "Then one of you will get the next try."

Timmothy looked at the princess. "And, if we all fail?"

"Then you will be executed."

Timmothy sighed. "Oh, wonderful." He turned back to the arena cheering his friend on. "Come on Galen! You can ride him!

Galen turned to the unicorn and whispered into his ear. Jupiter bowed his beautiful head and allowed him to touch his horn. Galen then slowly moved his hand down the stallion's head and closed his hands on the golden bridle, he carefully lifted it and cast it aside, then waited. There was complete silence as the unicorn just stood there. Galen slowly moved forward and softly touched his neck, it felt much like silk. The unicorn knelt down with his forelegs and Galen carefully and slowly climbed on. Maximus quickly rose and Galen touched one side of the unicorn's neck with his hand, making him move right, then did the same on the other side, making him move left. He then rode the stallion up to the king and dismounted, the crowd gasped in amazement, even the king was speechless.

"I have ridden Maximus without bridle, will you keep your word?"

The king nodded silently. Annibelle smiled at her father. "Challenge won father."

Annabelle handed Galen a backpack of supplies and gave timmothy the reins to their horses, who had all been fed and groomed.

Timmothy smiled at her weakly. "I guess this is goodbye now Anna."

"No such thing as goodbye Tim."

"Until we meet again then?"

Annabelle grinned as they both smiled. "Until we meet again, Tim."

Timmothy smiled and Celest and Galen exchanged looks, Timmothy was silent as Galen mounted Maximus and they rode off.

The beautiful mares grazed in their field once again as a champion he was once more. Jupiter had retrieved his mares from other stallions and reclaimed his home, pride was high within his heart as his golden horn sparkled in the summer sun. Celest smiled at Galen.

"He looks happy doesn't he?"

"I doubt he is alone."

They both looked over to Timmothy who was smiling at a letter he read a from Annabelle. They both grinned at each other.

"Are you happy too, Galen?"

He squeezed her hand softly. "Very."

"You were amazing with Jupiter."

"Thanks"

"But theres still one thing I can't figure out."

"What's that?"

"When you whispered into Jupiter's ear, what did you say to him?"

Galen smiled secretively.

"What any stallion would want to hear."

"You're never going to tell anyone are you?"

"Nope."

Celest pushed Galen playfully as they all mounted their horses and went home.
