The Swan*

Along a lake suffocated in cool mists
That you happened upon this fine dawn
Birdsong fills your ears; a pine scent you can't resist
In this place, you chance to see a distant swan.

As it glides across the expanse
Its ivory elegance is apparent.
Its long neck submerged to feed, perchance
You sense that its beauty is inherent

As the entity floats nearer
Like a vicious hawk's, your vision
Begins to make the scene much clearer.
You now view the swan with more precision

As you see what it is, your mouth fills with bile
For, floating in the lake, is the corpse of a child.

*This is a poem that i authored for Language Arts class, so sorry about how sucky it is.
