Throughout history and legend, people from all cultures and continents have used the spiritual and healing powers of gems and crystals. Utilized for purely religious purposes as well as communion, physical and spiritual healing, the power of gems and crystals is intertwined with the history of mankind.
It is widely believed that gems & crystals act as amplifiers when brought into contact with the human body�s seven-chakra points. Rotating at different speeds, these chakra points release energies, imparting the body with its precious life forces. While your chakras can become clogged from stress or anxiety, using gems or crystals in accordance with meditation or bodywork is thought to help balance these energy points, promoting health, happiness and well being.
While it is not recommended that gems or crystals be used in place of modern medical treatment, many people find that the use of healing gems improves their overall well being, encouraging a more positive outlook and a generally healthier visage.
Gems or crystals can be used interchangeably for healing purposes. They are commonly chosen to aid specific ailments but many people find that they don�t choose their gem or crystal, it chooses them. While casually perusing gems and crystals you may find that a particular item draws you to it. Follow your instincts. Your body needs all 7 color rays: red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo and violet; and you may unconsciously be drawn to the gems or crystals that is most appropriate for you. Alternatively, you may choose a gem or crystal that relates to one of your energy centers or chakras that is in need of clearing, balancing or enhancing.
While it is not fully understood how crystal healing works, it is thought to be largely related to the natural vibrations that all crystals emit. Just think of the quartz crystals that are used to power digital watches as an example of crystal vibrations at work.
Crystals (and particularly gem-quality crystals) emit vibrations that affect the wearer�s body. Certain crystal or gem varieties are believed to have positive effects when utilized on particular energy centers or chakras of the body, much like deep therapeutic massage and acupuncture.
Agate comes in many colors including shades of red, brown, yellow, orange, and blacks, sometimes with stripes or zoning.

Feldspar is a group name of tectosilicates including Orthoclase, Labradorite, Moonstone and Amazonite. It is commonly found mixed with pegmatite's and granite.
Fluorite comes in a rainbow colors, however it is commonly white, yellow, blue, green, purple or a mixture of these colors.
Garnet is a silicate mineral that comes in a variety of colors, the most popular being red or green. When choosing garnet, the brighter the better! Use this stone cut and polished.

Moukaite is a jasper that is mined only in Australia. Colors include bright reds, purples, oranges and yellows.
Obsidian is a stone that is formed when lava is quickly cooled. It has the properties of glass. It breaks into shards that are sharp enough to shave with.
Onyx is normally black or brown with white bands. It is a type of chalcedony that promotes strength, increased vigor and steadfastness. It helps with self control and is valuable in confusing or difficult times in ones life.
Opal is a quartz that comes in a wide range of colors. It fosters love, loyalty, faithfulness, passion and is associated with peace and consciousness. I have Mexican Fire Opals, which are bright orange or red, and Brazillian Fire Opals, which are a satiny yellow color.
Peridot is also known as Olivine. It is a yellow-green, olive green or brown stone. It inspires healing, renewal, rebirth, and growth. It alleviates anger and irritation and is associated with stress reduction relaxation, comfort and intuition.
Pietersite helps to enhance tenacity, courage and the ability to maintain or create what is yours.
Physically, pietersite balances body fluids, helps the gastrointestinal system, balances female hormones, and helps with menopause symptoms. Sapphire is a member of the Corundum clan. It is the stone of holy blessings and is said to draw protection and prophetic wisdom to the user. It helps to inspire creative expression, intuition and meditation.
Sardonyx is a variety of onyx that contains layers of clear red or reddish brown carnelian alternating with layers of chalcedony.
Sodalite is a deep blue with white streaks and flecks. It is used to encourage rational thinking, logic, intelligence, emotional balance, intuition, higher knowledge, clarity, truth and perception. Sodalite also fosters knowledge, learning proficiency, consciousness, communication and wisdom.

You can find garnet in many colors. Tvsorite Garnet is a kelly green color. Demantoid Garnet is also a bright green, but some of this material has more sparkle and rainbows (dispersion)than diamonds!
My very favorite is Spessartite (spessartine). There are 2 varieties, the Mandarine Orange and the Aurora Red. I love the Mandarine ones...they also have so much sparkle it amazes. The Aurora Reds are the deep red of the Pyrope Garnet (the garnets you are so familiar with, also called "pigon blood red", but these Aurora Reds have an orange glow and flash to them...
