Iv'e been sitting here looking all around,
It's now I realize i'm in the pound.

I wonder where I went wrong,
I was always gentle, never too strong,
I watched my manners, never too bold,
Do you suppose it's because i'm getting old?

I watched over the kids, never dug a hole,
Minded my inside visits, always went out to use my pole,
Barked when strangers came around,
And when allowed inside, never made a sound,
I've thought and thought and nothing comes to mind,
Do you think it's because i'm going blind?

I must admit my teeth are going, and my coats a little grey,
But I can still run and play, admittedly, not as fast as in my younger day.

Do you think someone will come?
Someone who'll make me their chum?
Who will let me rest a little now, for all the years, faithfulness and loyalty i've shown,
Oh! god, please, let someone come and take me home,
Don't leave me here all alone.
