Model Review- 1:72 scale Road Chaser by Scooby Doo

January 2001 for $6.99

Old. Yes, this kit is old. It was produced by Arii in the late 80's thru the early 90's and features primitive polycaps...white vinyl caps you line the inside of the joints with to make them last longer. It's molded in all white, so it requires you to rip out the airbrush. The box art is quite enticing, it's a pic of the road chaser grabbing a small pistol from the inside of it's folding leg armor. It's obviously a small mecha, seeing that it's 1/72 scale and is almost as small as my 1/220 Z Gundam kits. It features a traditional old school joint system, with a cylinder in the chest where you insert two pegs from the shoulder armor. The pictures in the manual make this kit look gross, and very stiff, although it is flexible. Parts fit is good, although it's not a snap kit :P. I gotta say though, that the plastic quality is quite poor... paint doesn't stick well, unless you have really good acrylic primer (Mr. Color) and the molding was supposed to make two identical beam pistols, although it made one about 2 mm longer than the other. Oh well, it's still a good kit. It also has Arii's "ugly" hands, which is passable, and it is an otherwise alright kit when done. Note that if you buy the Breast (that's the name :P) Chaser kit from this series, it's just this kit with fancy backpack parts. The only armament it features are two mini pistols which store quite nicely inside the knee armor. I have two of these kits, and one of which is currently used for scrap parts (Really cool head) and the other is complete.

On a scale of 1 thru 5, I would give this a 3.8.
