The title of Static-X's album, Wisconsin Death Trip, is inspired by a book that singer/guitarist Wayne Static found at a flea market 15 years ago.  The book is a collection of photos and news articles pertaining to life in a small Wisconsin town.  It was a haunting experience for him, as the book contained detailed explanations of murder scenes, pictures of babies in coffins, and other haunting imagery.  Wayne himself is originally from Shelby, Michigan.  He hooked up with drummer Ken Jay in Chicago, where they formed the band Deep Blue Dream.  A move to Los Angeles proved to be a wise one, as they joined the resurgence of metal that was to come out of this area.  This is where they established their reputation as a hard rocking band with fans that feed off of their energized mix of techno, metal, goth/industrial, and disco(!!!).  This is a band that makes music because they enjoy it, not because they are trying to change the world or relay a message.  But as long as there are live venues to be filled, that's just fine with me.
