| Raging out of Bakersfield California like a pack of wild boars, Korn brought something to the table that no one had in years: a sound that truly rocks. A blend of metal, hip-hop, and funk give Korn a sound that must be heard to be understood. Adding to their already diverse sound is the use of seven string guitars by members Head and Munky. Korn has always incorporated a child-like theme, from the purposeful misspelling of their name to the rants of a scorn man whose own childhood was ruined by abuse. In my opinion, this use has gone too far, as the new album sounds as if the band was either attempting to make it appealing to teenagers to appeasing to the radio gods. Some of the songs have none of the growling, screaming, and barking us ol' Korn fans are accustomed to. This is why most bands eventually fail, they try to make their audience grow and grow and eventually ignore the reason they gained popularity in the first place. But let us enjoy their first three albums and look at the fourth as a testament to the power of money. (The lure of TRL and the robot known as Carson Daly are too great!!!!). |
