Well in a few days life gets back to normal for a little while. For the past year or so I have been spending about two or three hours online every night either researching tax laws, reading Congressional reports, or answering campaign emails. I have to say it's been pretty mentally taxing, but I wouldn't trade the experience for anything. The election is only a few days away, and I plan on blowing off some steam that night. Hey, I would LOVE to win this thing, but it would take a miracle. It's hard to compete against two guys who have each spent over ten million dollars. You really have to wonder about someone who would spend that much money on a job that pays about $160,000 a year. Honestly, is it to satisfy a major ego trip? I entered the U.S. Senate race to give people a viable option, not to satisfy my ego. I feel very comfortable knowing I did this to do the right thing, and to take a stand for what I believe in and value...not for some sort of status. For the last year or so, this Senate race has consumed my life and now it will be ending this coming week. I expect a bit of a crash, but I also know that I'll do it again for 2008. I remember writing once that I crave a challenge, and I have to say that this campaign has been one HUGE challenge...and I have loved every second of it no matter how frustrated I got. It has kept me up late at night, has made me alter plans to do interviews and appearances, and I know my social life has been put on the back burner during this whole thing...but I have LOVED it. And that's why I can't wait to do it again for the 2008 elections...that's unless some miracle takes place and I actually win this thing. I'll say this...you learn a lot about yourself running for office the way I have. I have done so many interviews either with newspapers or on the radio where I get asked a lot of the same questions that there is no room for error. It's nice to just be able to speak what I think and not worry about alienating people or offending anyone. If I did...fine...go vote for someone else. What has been mind-blowing is getting emails from people I have never met during this early voting time where they tell me they voted for me. All I did was make my opinions public when it comes to politics, and people identified with it enough to vote for me. It's honestly about the most mind-blowing thing that has ever happened. Here I am, a regular Joe who gets up during the week to go to a 9-5 job and has bills to pay, yet people that I don't know read my website (www.boforsenate.com) and decided to use their right to vote on me. I am honestly not an arrogant guy at all...but I am confident in what I believe in and the opinions I have...and it looks like a lot of people identify with that. Anyway, Tuesday night I'll be at Dave & Busters' at Opry Mills Mall in Nashville to have a drink or two and watch the election results. If anyone wants to join me, feel free to do so. And if I don't win, then everyone better watch out for me in 2008!
I went to see "Saw III" this week and loved it. Granted, there wasn't the usual traps and so forth Jigsaw's victims usually find themselves in, but the overall story was great. I LOVED how it expanded on the plots from Saw 1 and 2...very rare for a horror trilogy to do. The movie ended with me having a smile, so it rocked. The only thing I had a problem with was the couple of families in there. I honestly couldn't believe that they would bring LITTLE KIDS to this movie. I'm talking 5 or 6 year olds. As much as I love horror movies, I would NEVER do this. It's like when I saw "Texas Chainsaw Massacre - The Beginning" a couple of weekss ago and little kids were there with their parents....I couldn't believe it! What are they thinking??? I know I enjoy a lot of things like horror movies, violent video games, and South Park, but I would NEVER let a kid of mine see this stuff until they were older. Anyway, "Saw III" was great, but not nearly as good as the new Texas Chainsaw.
And Halloween has come and gone. What did I do? First off, I decorated my yard with a bunch of fake tombstones. I also had the evil pumpkin on my porch and a front door decoration. I had a bunch of tick-or-treaters...more than the last three years combined! Oh yeah, they knew who's house was serious about Halloween and stopped by. I sat there in the dark with a few candles going watching "Saw II" answering the door. I loved it. I have so many great memories of Halloween as a kid and I do what I can to help make a kid's Halloween a good one. I give out TONS of candy to anyone who stops by. I don't care what anyone says...that night is such innocent fun to me. Yes, I'm a Christian and yet I see no problem with Halloween. So some 6 year old kid knocks on my door dressed as Batman...am I honestly going to lecture him about Halloween being some Pagan holiday??? No...he's a kid and I'm going to let him enjoy being Batman and getting free candy. Halloween drives me nuts when I hear some people talk about how evil it is. Regardless of it's roots...Halloween is a little kid dressed up as his favorite superhero/comic character/movie character walking around and getting free candy. That's what it is. It's not like some 6 year old gets his candy and then goes home to put on a goat's head and dance around a fire singing praise to Beelzebub. That's why I put up all the fake tombstones in my yard and everything...I wanted to give out candy and let the kids have some fun. I gave out over three big bags of candy, so I considered it a good night. I just always had so much fun as a kid on Halloween I want to do what I can to contribute to these kids who were out that night and let them have some fun. We got an email at work the day before saying we should dress up and everything. Now I was pretty confident that no one would dress up for Halloween except for maybe a couple of people, so I dismissed it. But Monday night I was talking to a friend of mine on the phone and he said that I should do something because I love Halloween so much. I dug around the closet for a little and found the make-up kit I used last year when I was Chuckles the evil clown in that movie "30 Years". So...I present you my costume for Halloween this year - me as Captain Spaulding from "House of 1,000 Corpses" and "The Devil's Rejects"....
ME
THE REAL CAPTAIN SPAULDING
Yeah I know it's not the best job in the world, but it was 6 in the morning...awww yeah! Reminds me of some old school Ice-T BIATCH!!!! Ok, lame joke. Anyway, it was VERY early in the morning when I did this and I am about as motivated as a three-toed tree sloth before 10 o'clock on any given day. Considering the rush job I did, I didn't think it turned out that bad. What sucked was NO ONE I work with knew who I was. If they did, they didn't mention it. One asked if I was one of the Insane Clown Posse. When the email went around asking for voted for the best costume, I was listed as "a clown". I was heartbroken! It was as bad as 1997. Check this out - Halloween of 1997 I decided to go to work dressed as Snake Plissken, the coolest fictional character of all time. If you don't know him, you're missing out. It's Kurt Russell from "Escape From New York" and "Escape From L.A.". I knew this girl who was a hairdresser, so I bought a brown wig and had her style it like Snake's hair. I go to work with the wig, the eyepatch, the camo pants, the guns, and who do the girls think I am? That guy from "Days of Our Lives" who had an eyepatch. Oh well, it's not MY fault my co-workers don't watch quality films.
Ok, so that's it for right now. I'll have more after the election and life starts to get back to normal. And Michael Vick once again showed the world why he is THE most dangerous QB in the league last week. It's amazing how well someone can play when the friggin line actually BLOCKS! Oh yeah...my ATL boys are kicking some butt right now...which of course means they'll lose to Detroit...hahaha. Jeez...can you believe it's already November? What a year it has been. This blog hasn't captured half of it. More on that another time. Take care Sportsfans!
