For those who didn't see NoiseCult this past Friday, let me sum it up in two words - power trio. After watching the video of it, I have to say we rank up there in the all-time power trio's like Rush and Triumph and all those bands. This gig was the second best one I have ever played. The first best was last summer at The Muse because we had a good crowd and there were cool lights and all that, but I went into this one with a killer mentality. What was it? Well we just got a review of our new CD that has the single greatest compliment I have ever received. To put this in perspective, I have been given many compliments in my life. For instance my 3rd grade teacher said it wouldn't surprise her if I became President one day. A teacher I had in Junior High gave me a medal a former student had given him that said "World's Greatest Comedian" because I could match wits with him on anything. And over the last few years I get many compliments from women. I mean seriously, I don't mean to sound like Johnny Frat Boy looking for a one night stand, but I get the "you are such a gentleman....you are the perfect guy...you are so thoughtful..." just to name a few. So why a I still single? hahahaha...maybe next time. Anyway, the review of our CD this week said one thing that just really did it for me, and I'm sure some will go "oh man, what a dork" but when you put your energy and time into something like a band CD you'll understand. So what did it say? Well the review of the new CD was awesome...the dude loved it...but here's what he said about me - "but Bo Heyward’s voice is pure Rock". That is probably the best compliment I have ever received. Oh wait...it gets better for my own gratification. The review also said - "SHEvil” is an under two minutes Motörhead bass riff monster with Scandinavian Dirty Rock elements of the Hellacopters or Gluecifer, plus Danzig on vocals." Plus Danzig on vocals???? Remember, I gave Glenn Danzig the lifetime achievement award for last year, so to say ANYTHING about me and Danzig in the same sentence when it comes to vocals is unreal. I had this in my mind when we hit the stage the past week and I was a rock god! Oh yeah, if you missed it then you missed a great show...NoiseCult ROCKED! The only bad part was the microphone. See, when we were setting up, I heard our drummer Vinne say "...the mic will shock you". I just caught the tail end of what he was saying. For some reason when I do vocals, I put my mouth on the mic. I mean I don't lick all over it or anything like that, but I've got this foam covering I put on the mic and when I do vocals my lips are usually on the foam. Why? It's hard to describe, but I need to know where I am as far as space goes with the mic, so I basically keep my mouth right on the foam covering. We launch into the opening tune "Incinerate", and during the first line I get a pain shooting through my front teeth. Ever had a bad toothache? That's what it felt like...that pain that goes right through a bad tooth. So I'm thinking "oh wonderful, now I gotta go to the dentist and get this thing checked out" all while I'm doing the vocals...hahaha. I mean it hurt. So when I start the second verse the same thing happened, and then I remembered what Vinne said about the mic. Yeah, the mic would shock me if I touched it. Weird, huh? I warned the band that played after us about it, so the singer used a different mic and one of the other guys in their band got the mic that would electrocute you. In one of their songs I heard the dude go "damn! that mic shocked me" during the middle of a song...hahaha. I do have to say, out of all the gigs I've done over the last couple of years, this one was completely awesome because all the other bands we played with I dug. Normally I get bored by some of the bands we've gigged with just because what they're playing isn't the style I like, but all these bands were damn good and the dudes were all really cool. The drummer of the last band was awesome. It's like my bud Jason said - "he's beating those drums like it's someone he hates". I mean the guy was just POUNDING them. So to those who couldn't make it, you missed a great show because I ROCKED! Don't worry, you'll have other chances. We're playing at The Muse here in Nashville in August. I'll post the date...don't worry.
Well I finally got a big break in my Senate campaign. On July 29th, the Tennessee Conservative Union is having a big dinner, and guess who got invited to speak? Yep, yours truly. Not only did I get invited to speak, but the three Republican candidates will be there also making speeches. Oh this could be huge. I'm working on my speech and will definitely have some choice words. It will be quite entertaining and I will post it all here once it goes down. To think that I'm going to be speaking where the three Republican candidates are is something I've been trying to do for a while now, and it's finally going to happen. Oh yeah, it's on.
See, this is what I enjoy about my life. I take chances. I make things interesting. I get bored so easily even when a ton of things are going on that I have to not just burn the candle at both ends, but take a flame-thrower to it. If you don't take chances then you're left with regret. For example, I wanted to be a sports broadcaster on TV and I did it, I wanted to be a radio DJ and I did it, I wanted to be an announcer for the Atlanta Falcons radio team and I applied and made it to the final cut, I wanted to put on a pro wrestling match in front of people and I did it, I always wanted to be the lead singer for a metal band and I'm doing it, I wanted to write a book and I did it, and when I decided I wanted to run for Senate I filed to become a candidate and am busting my butt trying to campaign. I'm a firm believer that if there's something you have a dream to do, then you pursue it, and if it doesn't work then you have nothing to hang your head about because at least you tried. I thank God that I've been able to do the things I've done, but I know if I don't take the steps to try and make something happen then nothing ever will. Granted things have backfired a few times when it comes to women...hahahaha. I mean I'm one of those guys that when a woman really does it for me, then I'll ask her out even if I think she's WAY out of my league because I just have to know, even if that means rejection and humiliation. Oh yes, a glutton for punishment...hahaha. Now I will say that pursuing what you desire can sometimes lead to frustration and all that, but it's better to know the result then to "what if" everything. I made a pact with myself many years ago that I would never put myself in a position to "what if" anything, and while I may not be exactly where I want to be in life, I can honestly say that I have zero regrets over the last several years because I at least tried. Wow, I had no idea I'd get so "deep" tonight...hahaha.
Ok, that's it for tonight sportsfans.
Later!
