It’s the end of an era, the closing of a chapter, all that sort of stuff…after being at my present employer for over a year and a half, by the time you read this I will be unemployed.  See, in the technology age contracting jobs are somewhat of the rage because companies will pay people pretty good money to come in and work on a project for about 3 to 6 months.  You’re basically a hired gun and they pay pretty good because they need someone who will need minimal training and hit the ground running…someone who is extremely bright and intelligent…much like me…hahaha.  Anyway, it’s pretty unheard of for a contractor to be with the same company for as long as I have, so it’s not like I didn’t know it was coming.  Honestly I'm not too torn up about it…it’s been SOOO long since I had any real time off so I’m looking forward to the break.  And hey, worst case scenario I declare bankruptcy so I don’t lose my house…hahahaha.  Now here’s my favorite thing whenever I leave jobs – the ol’ “keep in touch”.  Every single job I leave people will be like “keep in touch”.  Ummmm….why?  And why do they burden ME with the responsibility of keeping in touch?  Just ONCE it would be nice to hear “I’ll keep in touch” as in someone decides to shoulder that responsibility themselves.  It’s not enough I’m about to be unemployed, and now they throw more problems on me with having to keep in touch???  And seriously, if someone has to ask to have you contact them…I do believe it’s safe to assume neither one ever has any plans to contact them down the road.  Anyone I want to get in touch with I will and vice-versa…there’s no need to ask.  The best thing about knowing you’re leaving a job is that absolutely nothing is expected of you.  For the last two weeks once it was finalized my contract wasn’t going to be renewed, I basically would come into work and do such worthwhile things as read up on the latest video game tips and tricks, watch movie trailers, play online java games, and work on this week’s Buzz column…hahahaha.  I couldn't  wait for the week to end though…my first week is “Slugfest 2K5” where I will engage in such activities as waking up whenever I naturally wake up and moving the rest of the day’s events to the couch.  I’ve got a stack of movies that I’ve been waiting to watch and can picture Pizza Hut being quite busy with trips to my house.  Add to this gallons of chocolate chip cookie dough ice cream and an extensive video game library…I will be in a state of sheer bliss.  In fact, just so I feel like I’m accomplishing something, maybe I should see how much weight I can put on in one week…hahahaha.  Some might be worried when they’re about to lose a job…but not me…not this time.  I’m a seasoned veteran when it comes to layoffs and/or company shutdowns and so forth…so this is all old hat by now.  You just gotta keep the faith and keep moving forward and everything will work out somehow.  In fact, remember when I wrote about the Danzig show a couple of weeks back and how he only played the one Misfits song?  Well, I get on ebay and found a bootleg of the tour filmed a few days before the show I went to…and it had all the Misfits stuff on it.  Very good quality bootleg too.  So not only did I get to see more Danzig songs played when I saw them live because of the lack of Misfits songs, I also now have a copy of a show with Misfits tunes on it.  See how everything works out?  Like I stated previously, by the time you read all this I will have worked my last day.  And how will Slugfest 2K5 start?  Well today I went and saw "Sin City"...I was able to catch a matinee since work didn't get in the way.  So how was the movie?  Eh....it was ok.  It was too "Pulp Fiction" for my taste.  Now I LOVE "Pulp Fiction", but I don't need to see it done again in another movie.  Let me put it this way - you know how "Pulp Fiction" had the opening scene and then a few seperate stories that all tied together then wrapped up at the end using the opening scene?  That's exactly how this movie went.  The story involving Mickey Rourke's character could have made a really cool movie if they had just stuck with that...but they didn't.  It wasn't bad...but it wasn't great either.  I really had my hopes up for this one...oh well.  And what is a trip to the movies without me having something to bitch about?  Read on....

Originally I wanted to go see an earlier showing of the film because I figured as the day went on, more and more younger people would be going who were getting out of classes or people would be getting off of work and heading out...basically I was trying to avoid any sort of crowd at all.  Earlier in the week I had mentioned to Kelly (our drummer in the mighty NoiseCult....that's www.noisecult.com) that I was going and he said he wanted to check it out.  So we were gonna go to a show at about 1 or 2.  Well, he had a job that lasted a little longer then it should have so we didn't go until the 3:30 showing.  He had a briefing on the way about my disdain for theaters and the crowds and how someone always ruins it for me.  We sit down and he mentions about the movie "Team America" and how the entire theater was laughing during the movie because it was that funny...I told him how much it annoys me to hear people I don't know laugh in theaters and he found this pretty amusing...but I was serious.  I just hate how something that would only normally illicit a chuckle if watched at home would bring about a "BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!" in a theater.  Well, guess who decides to sit behind me...some dude who annoyed the piss out of me.  As soon as he sits down he goes to cross his legs or something and kicks the chair...I shoot a look back at him which brings a "sorry".  As if that wasn't bad enough he starts hacking and coughing.  Kelly looks over at me and starts laughing because I am quite peeved.  I look back at tis guy and then move my coke out of range of flying spittle form this disease infested human being.  As the movie played out....dude starts busting into fits of laughter AND decides to repeat the funny line in case anyone around him missed it.  For example, a guy gets shot with an arrow and it's sticking through him and he goes "ummm...guys?  a little help here?" so this guy starts laughing and says "hahahaha...a little help here...hahahaha".  And to make matters worse, my greatest fear in watching a movie in a theater is that there will be a lot of on-screen smoking since the clean air freaks had to ruin everything for the rest of us and smoking is not allowed.  Guess what, just about every friggin character would light up and inhale the smoke like it was sheer ecstasy.  The only real funny thing that happened was these two old women came in and sat down...which seemed a little odd for a movie like this...and after about 15 minutes they got up and left.  Perhaps they had the wrong theater???  I have no clue.  I can hear it now - "Ummm Gertrude?  This doesn't look like no 'The Aviator'...why....that young little hussie is showing her breasts!".  Oh, and the trailer I was SUPPOSED to get for "The Devil's Rejects" didn't show either...so I was a wee bit miffed about that.

Speaking of "The Devil's Rejects", I was talking to my mom a few days ago and was telling her about the horror movie convention I went to....she asked me "was there anyone else there that's you age?" like I'm some freak for going.  I had to assure here that there were even people there who were older then I was...as if everyone there was around 15 and meanwhile I'm some 36 year old dork who's shaking with excitement over meeting these guys and getting autographs....oh wait...the latter part of that is true.  Ummm....but there were people there who were even older then me so there!

You know what?  That's it for now.  Of course seeing how I have more free time, I'll have some other stuff up in a couple of days.  I'm just having a hard time with the comedy stuff this week because of the news yesterday.

Anyone who read last week knows how much the whole situation involving Terri Schiavo and her family was truly disturbing to me and how angry it made me.  Well, I'm sure you've heard she died yesterday...and originally last night I wrote this HUGE thing about it all...but what was the point?  It's all over now.  All I know are a few things - her ordeal is over, the family can mourn now and not have to fight it in court, and hopefully our judicial system will get a complete overhaul.  The other stuff I wanted to write comedy-wise (if you can call what I do comedy) will wait until next time.  I'm not gonna launch into a huge thing about Michael Schiavo being an asshole or anything like that.  American courts sentenced an innocent woman to die against her family's wishes (which Michael is no longer a part of since he decided to shack up with another woman) and it's a sad day in this country's history.  I hope no one forgets this travesty.  It honestly breaks my heart to the point of tears.  I know I get pretty harsh at times with my attitudes towards other people and so forth, but the bottom line is I don't ever want to see an innocent person suffer or their families...I truly don't.  So at this time, about all I can really say is -

Rest In Peace Terri
