Better Later Then Never and Eli Is a Brat
Better late then never, right Sportsfans? Anyway, the reason for the tardiness is that this will be the third time I've written this thing over the last almost two weeks. The reason being, I couldn't help but keep going back to one topic even thought I really didn't want to go off on it so much. I wanted to write about how cool the Metallica show was, but found myself flying into a rage of profanities over a current event. So, for my own sanity, I will briefly touch on it now...briefly. A couple of weeks back there was video shown of a young Marine shooting a terrorist in the head. Yes, the news calls them insurgents but I choose to call a spade a spade...they're friggin terrorists. Anyway, this young Marine who had his buddy killed the day prior by a supposedly dead body that was rigged with a booby trap came into a mosque in Fallujah and found a terrorist that was thought to be dead but was still moving. The Marine yelled he was faking and shot him in the head. Video of this was broadcast all over and people were up in arms over the conduct of this Marine...meanwhile in Iraq a woman who was taken hostage was shot in the head execution style...but there isn't any outcry for that because, well, that might justify the conclusion that these people aren't even human beings...they are savages that deserve to be exterminated and I applaud that Marine for what he did. That's just one less terrorist the world will have to deal with...good job Marine. I feel my blood pressure rising so let's move on...the whole thing just infuriates me that anyone would want to armchair quarterback this guy...it is unreal to me to second guess his decision.
Alright...entertainment time. So I go to the Metallica show and yes, it friggin rocked. These dudes cranked out almost two and a half hours of great stuff...even busting out such old stuff like "Disposable Heroes", "Call of Ktulu" and "Fight Fire With Fire"...it was truly an amazing show. And yours truly even got a pick from the monster bass player Robert Trujillo himself. Now here's what cracks me up...I go to this site called www.nashvillerock.net and read people's opinion of the show. There were soooo many on there who were saying how Metallica sucked now and how St. Anger sucked and how they haven't done anything good since Justice or the Black Album or blah blah blah. Why was it cracking me up? Here we are talking about a band that is arguably the biggest band in the world right now and has been for YEARS and people want to talk about how much they suck now and how they sold out and all that crap. Oh yeah...the opinion of some dude who will never play more than a 200 person capacity club really means a whole lot to me. Now it's not that they think Metallica sucks...there's a lot of bands I think suck who are extremely popular...but it's the fact that these dudes would say "oh their first few albums are great but they suck now". You know...here's an example...I really dig the first three U2 albums believe it or not. I really like them up until "The Unforgettable Fire". So do I think U2 sucks? No...because at one time they were putting stuff out I really dug...I just don't really like what they've done since. I hate the "sold out" tag...I think for the most part it's the opinion of some little whiney brat who had his little band become popular and they're jealous that the band isn't part of his inside knowledge or inner circle anymore. I applaud Metallica for becoming as popular as they have. I truly feel they have always done what they wanted and if people deem that as selling out then whatever. People said they sold out on "Ride The Lightning"...people said they sold out on "The Black Album"...people said they sold out on "Load"....whatever...Metallica is still making some killer music so you just be happy playing in front of 25 people on a Thursday night so you can be oh so true to your music and be all deep and introspective and have your music be your "art". The fact that these guys have been around for over 20 years and can still draw thousands and have the crowd in a frenzy speaks volumes. See..a flash in the pan might be able to draw several thousand people for a show...but do that for years on end and you have something only few ever can accomplish...that isn't selling out...that's the stuff legends are made of so go screw yourselves. I've seen a lot of the big bands over the last twenty years trying to put together small club tours and stuff...meanwhile Metallica is still filling arenas...longevity in a music career speaks volumes. It's like at Ozzfest...the second stage may have had a rabid crowd when Lamb Of God and Slipknot took the stage...but in 20 years will anyone really care about these bands? I seriously doubt it. Meanwhile on the main stage you had the crowd go nuts for Judas Priest who has been around for like 30 years....kinda makes a statement huh? I thought so too. Trends come and go and the trendy bands die with them...really good bands have songs that people will crave to hear for a long time.
So who watched the Atlanta Falcons beat the New York Giants this week? Yes, my Falcons are 8-2 with that victory and are sitting pretty for a division title...unreal to a lifelong fan of this team. It was the national game on Fox this week...and I had a bad feeling beforehand. Why? Because the little crybaby himself Eli Manning was going to make his first NFL start at QB for the Giants. I used to love the Giants...not as much as Atlanta...but at one time I did. Any love I had for this team died when Eli signed on with them. Past readers of the Buzz can hearken back to last Spring after the NFL draft where I talked about the following...this is a bit from a previous Buzz-
"To see the type of person Pat Tillman was and how different he was compared to most professional athletes…heck…people for that matter…one only needed to watch the first 20 minutes of the NFL draft on Saturday. After a pretty stirring tribute to Tillman that started off the show, we then got to see Eli Manning whining and bitching about not wanting to play for San Diego. Forget the fact he was about to have a dream come true and play in the NFL, forget the fact that he would now be financially set for life while having this dream come true…none of that mattered. All he cared about was going where he wanted which is the equivalent of me taking a job, and then after I start, saying there are things at my new job I won’t do. Remember when I wrote last week about people being coddled? There’s a prime example. But hey, at least Eli got what he wanted and was traded later on…isn’t that all that matters? Doesn’t it just warm your heart to see someone bitch and whine and get their way? What a wonderful story of triumph over tragedy that is. Again I have yet another great example as to why I’m so cynical. Eli couldn’t be happy that he was about to become a very rich man and live out the dream of playing in the NFL, he had to have everything his way. What a little bitch he is. Eli was being booed like crazy, and deservedly so when he was picked by San Diego. Now, after the pick, he could have maybe realized that he had a chance to go turn a franchise around and really make a mark out there. So when he was asked about it, instead of “you know, I said some things I shouldn't have, but now that the moment is here I’m looking forward to getting out there and helping the Chargers win because the organization believes in me enough to draft me”, he says something to the effect of wanting to be traded because he doesn’t want to go there. Life must be tough for Eli Manning, and I applaud his courage through the ordeal of waiting for the next 45 minutes while a trade with the Giants was worked out. Manning even was so classy, he went up to the podium and held up a Chargers' jersey with the number 1 on it as all first-round picks do, and ESPN's Chris Berman stated that it was a classy act. Classy? Please....classy would have been him keeping his mouth shut. I guess Berman forgot for a moment what "class" is all about. So that was Eli Manning, another example of a wonderfully selfish human being. Contrast this with a guy who gave it all up because of a sense of duty, knowing it was his turn to give back. "
That's what I wrote last April, and this week Eli made his first start as QB against my Falcons. It's sad for me to wish ill will on someone, but I truly do hope that Eli's NFL career is a disaster...I really do...and it's because of what I mentioned above. I was terrified this week though because I figured not only would Eli have a great debut...but would beat Atlanta and therefore for years when highlights were shown about his career I would be subjected to reliving that game over and over. Well...didn't work out that way now did it. Nope...Eli had a very below average game including two interceptions...but according to the announcers Eli was playing his ass off and everyone else on the Giants just sucked. I was getting livid. It wasn't bad enough to see the biggest crybaby bitch I have ever seen in the NFL take the field...but the fact that the announcers were ready to line him up next to his brother Peyton and go down on them like circus seals was beyond my comprehension. So there the game is...under 2 minutes to go and the Giants trailing by 4. I was literally about to vomit...I had this HAAAARIBLE (shoutout..hahaha) feeling that Manning would march them downfield and win in the last second therefore solidifying his diety-like status the announcers had given him. Well guess what...Eli had his fourth down pass broken up by Keith Brooking. Yep...Mister Crybaby didn't pull it off and I couldn't have been happier. Honestly, I would have been thrilled if that happened against any team...but the fact it was my boys from the ATL really makes it sweet. Manning played a worse game then the guy he replaced - Curt Warner...yet everyone wants to start building him a special wing in the Hall of Fame. They talk about his poise, his maturity, his signal calling and blah blah blah. I have one thing to say - SCOREBOARD BIATCH!!! That's right...talk about your poise and all that crap...Manning played a bad enough game to cause the Giants to LOSE!!! That's right...his big start gave them another notch in the loss column and I couldn't be happier. Oh, by the way, the team he didn't want to go to in San Diego is in a very good position to make the playoffs so he can watch them at home since he won't be there.
Alright Sportsfans...I think I'm done for this week. Oh, Happy Thanksgiving. Enjoy the food, the football, the time off from work...but remember there are things to be thankful for - family, friends, freedom, and I'm sure there are plenty of people in the NFL who were thankful to get drafted unlike the little whiney crybaby named Eli Manning. Oh Eli, I maybe didn't mention this...but YOU SUCKED THIS WEEK AND LOST!!!! I just needed to get that out of my system...hahahaha. Next week...stuff on this NBA fiasco and how those dudes should never be allowed on a court again. Happy Thanksgiving Sportsfans..seriously. If one or one hundred read this thing each week I appreciate the time. Hope this thing is cool...I didn't even proofread this week.
