PSYKERS
Gaining Mystic Psyker Levels
Anyone can
cast mystic psychic powers so long as they gain some Mystic Psyker Levels. Over
the course of the 20 normal levels a character can gain up to a maximum of 20
Mystic Psyker levels.
In d20-40k
the only thing that determines your prowess with mystic powers is your current
mystic psyker level. There are 4 places that one can collect Mystic Psyker
levels.
1.) The
Dedicated Hero Mystic Power Talent Tree.
2.) The
feats: Mystic Heritage & Mystic Studies
3.) The
Seer or Navigator advanced class.
4.) The
Arch-Psyker, Navigator or Astropath prestige class.
So how does one become a Level 20 mystic psyker?
There is
basically only one way to become a Level 20 mystic psyker. The method is
outlined in the chart below. The order in which the classes are taken do not
have to be identical, but the makeup of the classes does.

Psychic Powers
A mystic
psyker casts psychic powers which are drawn from the mystic psychic powers
list. A mystic psyker must prepare psychic powers in advance like an arcane
psyker.
To learn,
prepare, or cast a psychic power, the mystic psyker must have a Wisdom score
equal to at least 10 + the psychic power level. The Difficulty Class for a
saving throw against a mystic psykers psychic power is 10 + the psychic power
level + the mystic psykers Wisdom modifier.
Like other
psykers, a mystic psyker can cast only a certain number of psychic powers of
each psychic power level per day. Her base daily psychic power allotment is
given on the Table: Mystic Psychic powers
per Day. In addition, she receives bonus psychic powers per day if she has
a high Wisdom score.
Uniquely
the Mystic Psyker knows all the
spells in the Mystic Psychic Power list and can prepare any of the spells
listed therein.

Preparing Mystic Psychic Powers
Time of Day: A mystic
psyker chooses and prepares psychic powers ahead of time, just as an arcane psyker
does. However, a mystic psyker does not require a period of rest to prepare
psychic powers. Instead, the character chooses a particular part of the day to
pray and meditate for his psychic powers. The time is usually associated with
some daily event. If some event prevents a character from praying at the proper
time, he must do so as soon as possible. If the character does not stop to pray
for psychic powers at the first opportunity, he must wait until the next day to
prepare psychic powers.
Psychic power Selection and Preparation: A mystic psyker selects and prepares psychic powers ahead
of time through prayer and meditation at a particular time of day. The time
required to prepare psychic powers is the same as it is for an arcane psyker (1
hour), as is the requirement for a relatively peaceful environment. A mystic
psyker does not have to prepare all his psychic powers at once. However, the
characters mind is considered fresh only during his or her first daily psychic
power preparation, so a mystic psyker cannot fill a slot that is empty because
he or she has cast a psychic power or abandoned a previously prepared psychic
power.
Mystic
psykers do not require psychic tomes. However, such a characters psychic power
selection is limited to the psychic powers on the mystic powers list which is
different from the powers available to the other two kinds of psykers.
Power slots: The
character class tables show how many psychic powers of each level a character
can cast per day.
These
openings for daily psychic powers are called power slots. A psychic powercaster
always has the option to fill a higher-level power slot with a lower level
power. A psychic powercaster who lacks a high enough ability score to cast
psychic powers that would otherwise be his or her due still gets the slots but
must fill them with psychic powers of lower level.
Recent Casting Limit: As
with arcane psychic powers, at the time of preparation any psychic powers cast
within the previous 8 hours count against the number of psychic powers that can
be prepared.
Bonus Psychic powers
Mystic
psykers with a particularly high Wisdom score can cast additional psychic
powers per day. The mystic psyker uses the same table that the arcane psyker
uses for bonus powers (see arcane psyker above).
Brain Engrams
A brain
engram is a psychic storage cybernetic placed in the brain. In the case of the
mystic psyker it allows the psyker to cast an additional psychic power at a
maximum level of three lower than his highest level power known. For instance a
mystic psyker with a mystic psyker level of 6 can cast 1 extra level 0 psychic
power per day. One with a mystic psyker level of 18 can cast an extra level 6
psychic power per day. In addition to the normal cybernetic rules a mystic
psyker can never carry more than 4 brain engrams.
