Changing Metric Units
In the metric system the base units are:
meters (m) - length (linear measurement)
grams� (g) - mass (weight or size)
liters (l) - capacity (amount a container will hold)
The prefixes from large to small are:

In all measurements, to express a unit in a larger size, divide by the number of units it takes to make one of the larger units. To express a unit in a smaller
size, multiply by the number of units it takes to make one of the larger units.
Customary Units of Length (linear measurement)
In the U. S., the customary units of length are: miles, yards, feet, and inches.
12 inches (in.)�� = 1 foot (ft)
3 feet�� = 1 yard (yd)
5,280 feet�� = 1 mile (mi)
1,760 yards�� = 1 mile
Customary Units of Mass (weight)
In the U. S., the customary units of weight are: ounces, pounds, and tons.
16 ounces (oz)�� = 1 pound (lb)
2000 pounds�� = 1 ton
Customary Units of Capacity (amount a container will hold)
In the U. S., the customary units of capacity are: fluid ounces, cups, pints, quarts, and gallons.
8 fluid ounces (fl oz) = 1 cup (c)
2 cups�� = 1 pint (pt)
2 pints�� = 1 quart (qt)
4 quarts�� = 1 gallon (gal)
Units of Time (units of time are same for customary and metric systems)
Units of time are: seconds, minutes, hours, days, weeks, months, & years.
60 seconds (s)�� = 1 minute (min)
60 minutes�� = 1 hour (hr)
24 hours�� = 1 day (day)
7 days�� = 1 week (wk)
52 weeks�� = 1 year (yr)
12 months (mo)�� = 1 year
