Joe's Movie Site

Hey all! Welcome to my movie site! I am Joe Fiorini. I'm an avid movie watcher and also a computer programmer/designer. I've recently been getting more and more into the link between movies and computers (ie. Star Wars Episodes I & II, Shrek, Monsters Inc., etc.). Recently I decided to write my prediction for the future of the movie industry. My girlfriend suggested I publish it, so that's exactly what I'm doing. So here it is, without further adieu, my prediction for the next few years of movie making:

In the next few years we will see computer animation become much more lifelike. Even now it is easy to tell the difference between life & computer. Within the next year or two a movie will be released that far surpasses Shrek or Monsters Inc. with its physical personification of animated characters. It will scare many people, but it will usher in a new era of movies: the line between "real-life" and CGI will be far less discernable. Can we handle it? Only time will tell.

What I'm saying is, imagine a movie in which there is no noticeable difference between the living characters and the computer generated ones. Or a movie like Shrek, that's made entirely on computer, but you would swear they were real actors! We're already close to the latter example. During the creation of Princess Fiona in Shrek they had to tone down her character because she looked so real; the producers were afraid of scaring the audience. But of course people will be scared! It's human to fear great change! People were afraid to admit that the Earth was round. Many were afraid to buy an automobile until years after they were first introduced. My own father is still afraid of the computer, and I know many others like him.

Now we stand on the threshold of a new breakthrough. The perfect recreation of the human body on a computer. Is this something we should fear? I think not. It is a whole new form of art, and why stop the creation of something that we as humans can enjoy for years to come? But that begs another debate that can be fought another day.

Let me know what you think! E-mail me at [email protected].
