“Mommy do we have to?” Five-year-old Matt Hardy whined to his mother while putting on his jacket.

“Yea, mommy, do we gots to?” His three-year-old brother, Jeff, whined tugging his mother’s skirt, with a pout.

“Yes you both have to come with me. You guys could meet some new friends, who knows? Maybe some of the new neighbors have some children your age.” Maria, their mother, said taking both there hands and leading them out the door. They walked across the street to the cream colored house across the street. They walked up to the house and Maria knocked softly on the door. A very tall chestnut colored hair woman answered the door.

“Hi, I’m Maria. This is Matt and Jeff, we just came to introduce ourselves.” Maria said smiling happily at her.

“Hello, I’m Jonah. Oh, and you have to meet my daughter Amy. Amy, sweetheart come down here!” Jonah said calling her daughter to come here. A small brown haired, green-eyed girl came skipping into the porch in a red dress, white knee-highs, and black shoes.

“Hi.” Amy chirped happily.

“This is Amy, my five year old.” Jonah said patting Amy on the head.

“I’m five too.” Matt said waving out five fingers to the delight of Maria and Jonah.

“Would you two like to come over later on tonight?” Maria asked. Jonah nodded her head and Amy squealed happily.

“Ok, is seven alright?” Jonah asked. Maria nodded. They said their good- byes and walked on to the other house. The other house was a little bit further down the block.

They walked up to the house and this one had a doorbell. Maria rang the doorbell, and a tiny blonde girl answered it. She had on a pair of pink overalls, with a white shirt under it, and pink high tops. Her long blonder hair was placed into two pigtails with pink ribbons.

“Hi, sweetheart, is your mother home?” Jonah asked, bending down to meet the little girl’s soft brown eyes.

“Yes.” The Blonde girl said tottering into another room to get her mother. She came back to the door tugging to her a light brown haired woman’s long shirt. “Mommy!” The blonde chirped pointing to the lady.

“So, sorry she answered the door, I’m Kelly.” The light brown haired woman said sweeping her daughter up into her arms. “And this handful is Nora.”

“Hiyas.” Nora squeaked holding out her hand for Jonah to shake it.

“I’m Jonah. How are you?” Jonah asked directing her question to Nora.

“This many.” Nora said showing her three fingers.

“So I’m I.” Jeff said jumping up and down.

“Well, we just wanted to invite you over for coffee later on around seven, is that ok?” Maria asked.

“Yes, we come.” Nora squealed happily in her mother’s arms, to the amusement of Kelly who nodded as well.

“Well, see you then.” Maria said walking back to the house with her sons.

“I like them.” Matt said, looking up at his mother.

“They nice.” Jeff said running behind them.

Later that Night

“You both are to be on your best behavior. Matt, no pulling their hair. Jeff, please do not jump off the arm of the couch.” Maria said going to answer the door. She opened the door to find Kelly holding Nora in her arms.

“Hi.” Nora squeaked out, waving her tiny hand.

“Why hello there.” Maria said waving at Nora, which made Kelly laugh. Kelly gently put Nora down and she walked right over to Matt and Jeff.

“Are any other children coming?” Kelly asked walking inside as well.

“Yea, another girl is coming.” Maria said looking out the window and here they are. Maria jogged over to the door and let Amy and Jonah inside. “OK, Jonah, Amy this is Kelly and Nora.” After everyone had their introductions, the adults went into the kitchen to talk, leaving the children to play.

“Hi, I’m Matt and this is Jeff.” Matt said pointing things out to them, making them laugh. “I no get it.”

“They knows us already.” Jeff snickered.

“I know that.” Matt said proudly.

“Are yous two going to the playground tomorrow?” Jeff asked bouncing over to Nora.

“I can ask my Mommy.” Nora said tottering to the entrance of the kitchen. “Mommy can I go to park with Jeff tomorrow.” Nora whined to her mother.

“Yes sweetie.” Kelly chuckled.

“Mommy! Can I go with Matt?” Amy whined also.

“Sure sweetheart.” Jonah snickered.

“Kids, come in here and get a cookie!” Maria called standing up to get them out the cookie jar. The four children raced into the kitchen to get a cookie. When Jeff reached for the cookie he accidentally dropped it on the floor. His lip began to tremble and eye began to water.

“Here.” Nora piped in. She handed Jeff half of her cookie.

“Thank you.” Jeff said, eating the half of cookie. Jeff took Nora’s hand and they ran back into the living room, followed by Matt and Amy.

“Awwwwww...” The three mothers chorused together. This was defiantly the start of a beautiful friendship.
