"Uncle Wang, look!"
Xiaoyu squealed as she happily ran into the room.
"Well sweetie what have
you got here." Wang smiled as his niece came running over to him.
"Mamma
brought me a hamster." Xiaoyu smiled as she lifted the cage up so that he could
see the lively pet.
"It's beautiful sweetheart what's it's name?" Wang
asked as he and his niece walked over to the kitchen table.
"Cookie!"
Xiaoyu happily chirped.
"Cookie?" Uncle Wang repeated with laughter in
his eyes.
"It was that or Candy." Xiaoyu's mother snickered.
"And
what was wrong with the name Candy?" Wang asked curiously.
"Cookie is a
boy." Her mother chuckled. Wang nodded slowly as he tried not to laugh. His
niece was something else that was for sure. "Come along Xiao, we have to get you
to school."
"Ok." Xiaoyu said sadly as she looked at her hamster. "Uncle
Wand will you baby-sit Cookie for me?"
"Of course I will." Wang smiled as
he looked between his niece and the light brown rodent.
"Ok bye Cookie,
be good for Uncle Wang." Xiaoyu said to her hamster. "Mama, after school can I
show Cookie to my friends?"
"Of course they can all come over and look at
Cookie." Her mother told her daughter as she walked out the house with her,
leaving Wang to watch Cookie.
Wang opened Cookie's cage and feed the pet,
checking to make sure that he had food and water. The Wang settled himself in
the living on the couch for a nice nap, of course not before he did a few
household chores. Hours later Wang woke up and walked into the
kitchen.
"Oh shit." Wang whispered. Cookie was gone; he had left the cage
open by accident. "Where the hell could that thing be?" Wang sighed and thought
for a moment. A scream interrupted his thoughts. He raced down the stairs to the
origin of the scream. "What's wrong?" Wang asked Xiaoyu's mother.
"There
was this huge rat down here and I just dropped the iron on it." She stuttered as
Wang reached down picking the iron up by the handle slowly to reveal Cookie
smashed and burned against the iron.
"That's wasn't a rat." Wang
sighed.
"Oh my gosh, is wasn't." She gasped.
"It was, literally."
Wang sighed as he walked over to the trash can and then threw the iron away
along with Cookie.
"What are we going to do I have to be at the school to
get Xiao in a few minutes."
"Leave it to
me."

"Mama, where is Cookie?" Xiaoyu asked as she saw
her mother enter the classroom.
"He and Uncle Wang went shopping." Her
mother smiled. "And here they are." Her mother walked over to Wang and peered
into the cage.
"That's not Cookie." Xiaoyu frowned looking into the cage;
she glared at the fairly large dark brown hamster.
"Yes it is. See when
me and Cookie went to the mall I brought him a new coat." Wang said covering his
lie. He just prayed that Xiaoyu never looked into the downstairs trash can and
saw the real Cookie fried and smashed to the
iron.

"I don't like math!" Xiaoyu
whined.
"But you have to learn it." Wang told her as he sat in front of
her helping her with what seemed to be an endless amount of math
problems.
"No, I have my calculator." Xiaoyu beamed as she showed her
Uncle the pink gadget.
"Not any more." Wang said taking it and tossing it
over his shoulder. "I am going to make this as easy as I can for you." Wang said
pulling at bag of cookies out. He took out three then another two. "Ok if I have
three cookies and you have two, how many would you have if I gave you my three?"
Wang looked at his niece as she counted the treats as he used them to help her
understand the math problem.
"None." Xiaoyu smiled.
"Why?" Wang
asked confused as he wanted to hear her logic for his.
"Because I would
eat them all, so I would not have any of them left." Xiaoyu smiled as she began
to eat the cookies happily.
"Ok then how many would I have?" Wang asked
hoping she got his right.
"None cause there is no way that I am sharing
with you." Xiaoyu laughed.

Little Xiaoyu
peeked her head into the dimly lit temple with a mischievous smirk on her face.
Wang wasn't anywhere around. She gave a quick jump for joy as she entered the
area and happily began doing cartwheels, spinning kicks, and back flips at the
entrance to the main part of the temple. There was something about the ground
she liked the way it felt against her hands as she moved about with her
acrobatic moves. After she landed one of her combinations she heard a loud
crash.
"Uh oh." She looked over to see one of the porcelain pieces to one
of her Uncle's favorite statue on the floor. Without hesitation Xiaoyu bolted
out of the temple and back to her house and ran straight up to her room and sat
there for about an hour nervously.
"Xiaoyu, sweetheart, your Uncle is
ready for you to come down to the temple for your training." Her mother told
her. Xiaoyu sighed and then nodded. She took her slow walk to the temple and
when she was there she was greeted by the angry face of Wang.
"I can't
believe it." Wang yelled. "I never thought that something like this would
happen."
"I know I am so sorry." Xiaoyu pleaded.
"Child, it's not
your fault it's those stupid stray cats your mother let's in here and it's my
fault that I didn't get some doors for this place." Wang sighed as he picked the
pieces up.
"Yea." Xiaoyu said softly.
End Memories
"And he
will never know about that statue." Xiaoyu smiled to herself as she worked in
the temple, looking at the spot where the statue used to
be.
